1 John 5:16 (KJV) If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. [emphasis mine]

An aspect about the interaction between Herod, an Idumean and John that has always struck me as important is that when John was dead, we see that Christ was brought before him and was asked to perform a few  (as Herod saw them) party tricks, and Jesus did not answer him at all.

I am convinced that as John's head fell, the struggle for Herod was over. He had been greatly bothered by John, and then it's as if the Holy Spirit no longer worked on him. My spirit will not always strive with man the Lord has told us, and for Herod it was over I am convinced. Tragic isn't it.

Compare this to the dialogue between Pilate and Christ, and the verbal interaction between these two events could not be sharper. One mocker gets nothing from Jesus, and the other man is responded to with some beautiful words that set his mind racing! Who are you, what are you as Jesus spoke to him. I often wonder what happened to Pilate in his later years and the effect this conversation with Christ had on him.
