I was wondering what people think is or is not possible with regard to sanctification in a practical matter as well as how people actually worry about what "committing a sin" means in their own daily life.  It's a way of focusing attention on what people think sanctification actually looks like in a Christian's life.

I wanted to try to get people's real life opinions on sanctification with a concrete question without turning it into a theoretical proof text tennis match or snowball fight that will eventually degenerate into a yet another OSAS, calvinist/arminian, or which proof texts can you trust, etc. type of thread.  I'm already familiar with that.  What I am curious about is how do people actually view this issue in their own life on a day to day basis.

I'd still like to know what sins people commit every five seconds....   I find that really bothersome.

Perhaps......unfortunately......especially nowadays......but this ought not to be.........according to scripture:

Ephesians 5:3-5

But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

See what I'm saying...?  The scriptures is what needs to be taught......the washing of the water of the Word.....instead of "expect to keep sinning until you get to heaven." Ch.0:00   How can the latter possibly convict and sanctify anybody?  See the point...?

But let's focus on the single concrete question, is it possible for you to go for 5 seconds without committing a sin? Why or why not?

You, me? No way.

We cannot resist temptation or to offer anything good from ourselves.

"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me." - John 15:4

Then I'd suggest people stop thinking you can do something; you cannot. If we are not in Him, we fall.

"But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." - Matthew 7:26-27

It is not you that win, it is He who is in you that makes you win. And without Him you are nothing.

Yes I think I know what you mean for it has been explained well in the inspired of God writing of Paul we now call Romans 6. We are not slaves to sin- but we have limitations, and we are works under sanctification not perfection, at this stage of our glorification.

Probably with that he was talking about the thought life, especially for the guys.......but even so when anyone resists the devil and submits to God, the devil will flee.  The problem is nobody is being taught to do that, they are being taught, "don't worry you're under grace, don't feel guilty, don't be so hard on yourself, it's just normal."  WRONG!!!  It's sin.....filthy, perverted, demonic, cesspool, disgusting sin!!  Resist it!  Pull it down, take authority over it and put it under your feet.  Once in a while if a foolish or evil thought comes to me I will even tell it out loud to shut up and begin praising the Lord instead of thinking a disgusting rotten putrid idiot devil thought.  Keep doing that and the devil will give up on that tactic and flee.  Don't accept it as just a normal part of being human.......it's only a normal part of being a fallen human, which if we know the Lord we are no longer fallen........ we are not under the dominion of sin any longer, rather we take dominion over IT.

'swhy confession is good for the soul.

We sin more than we are aware of. More than we excuse ourselves for. More than we realize as youths and the older we get and grow in Christ the more we wonder what is wrong with God that he would love someone as evil as me? or you? or you? or you?

God is love. Which his actions demonstrate perfectly.

Oh, and generally speaking only God needs hear your confessions.

Sure confess you are a sinner to others.

Come clean when you wrong people.

But you don't owe anyone other than God your continual confession of sin:

Psalm 51:4.

1 John 1:5 - 1 John 2:17

You keep using that word   "sin".    do you have examples of what you are talking about......    I do not have a filthy, perverted, demonic cesspool of a mind.....    haven't since Jesus pulled me from that life?    I don't understand if people have put their trust in Him and still dealing with most of that on a regular basis...    and I don't understand the "especially for the guys" thing....   are you speaking of lust...

You were wondering what the OP meant by sinning every 5 seconds.......and I responded thinking he probably meant the thought life........as some were discussing the thought life in some of the posts as well.........so the rest was just me talking in general about taking dominion over the thought life, impure thoughts, and was not at all addressing that part to you specifically.....sorry for the misunderstanding.

Amen and absolutely amen to what you are saying.....having been saved we have become new creatures.......however the devil still tries to battle against what we have attained.....and what is happening because of not many taking that fight seriously enough, and not taking sin in general seriously enough, the enemy has made serious inroads and sin has become rampant in the church now.  Hope that clears up where I was coming from.

Sister .  that is such a wonderful point.  I noticed in these times most would rather say we cant stop sinning

rather than to take the serious grave approach like paul and others did.   IF we don't approach sin as grave we in trouble.

Cause everyone has vile wicked flesh and it the attitude is hey we cant stop sinning , instead of LET not these things be even named once among you

or let he who names the name of Christ depart from inquity,  then their will be no real sense of death that sin really brings .   Gravity goes a long way

on working on the inner consicious .    I mean CHRIST knew how wicke sin was , he gave a sermon on how it would be better to cut of what sins than to continue in it

and end , yes his own words, and end in hellfire.  Talk about a wake up call to go and sin no more .   JESUS words really dig deep in the conscious if we hear them

and don't try and twist them .   THEY work deep in the inner conscious.   We need to be far more grave as a people than most I see today. far more

cause OUR LORD knew the dangers of continuing n sin and so did those apostels.   hard core warners agasint sin they were.   ITS what the church needs back in it .

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
