Our bodies may sleep when we die, but our true self is not flesh and blood ... we will be present with Christ although the body is "asleep."

Note that this part of your post is not Scripture.

There some who don't hold to this . If your saved you go to be with the Lord right away. Paul wrote to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord.

Which is being missed quoted.

Thank you @inchrist

I enjoyed reading your reply. In your opinion, do you think we have thoughts in this place of silence?

No we won't have thoughts

Ecclesiastes 9:10New International Version (NIV)

10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom

Why would anyone think this (or any variation if this is off a bit) is UNfortunate ?

Because that's what the scripture states

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood [i.e., mortality] cannot inherit the kingdom of God, neither doth corruption inherit incorruption." 1 Cor. 15:50

and here

But our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body (Philippians 3:20-21

[for me anyway]

"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)

"And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly." (1 Corinthians 15:49)

"There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body." (1 Corinthians 15:44)

"But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming." (1 Corinthians 15:23)

Christ said to the thief on the cross assured today you will be with me in paradise.

Also Paul wrote it's better to depart and be with Christ which is far better. Tell me if he was in a place of silence why would he think that's better. And he called that being with christ. I dont believe in soul sleep.

Thinking the soul is separated from the body is a heresy from centuries ago.

Thinking someone floats to heaven or to hell without their body is a myth from babylon or other fables introduced into the church after the corrupt authorities took over,  and still carries over today in the daughters of the harlot.

Wrong.

Which is taken out of context

For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord”

Paul specifically states he does not want to be unclothed (without a body), but rather further clothed (different body).

Not be disembodied; like some floating soul. This entire passage is about resurrection.

If you compare the rest of his teachings

1 Corinthians 15:51–54 is the exact same teaching

So when Paul  states; he prefers to be absent from the body and present with the Lord; Paul is specifically stating when we stand in God’s presence, we will not be in the same body we have now; but in a moment; in a twinkle of eye the next conscious thought we will have is being present with the Lord in our glorified bodies absent from our present bodies - resurrection.

Again taken out of context

20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christand to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.

Let Paul explain his meaning of his eagerly expect

For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” Romans 8:19.

Paul’s earnest expectation and hope was for the time when his body would be redeemed.

No where in Philippians 1:20-24 does Paul state he wanted to depart and be with Christ immediately.

Paul states he earnest expectations to be with Christ and we have found out from his other teachings that his expectation centered on the resurrection

The the ONLY means of being with the Lord is stated on 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and SO shall we ever be with the Lord
