interesting...   I don't think our actual temperature has risen above 10 so far this year.   We have had heat indexes of 108 or 109 though...

Even at 71 there has only been a couple of days that I didn't feel comfortable/safe working out in it.   But I'm a sweat hog and after ten minutes I'm soaking wet and that really cools you off when wearing cotton or the Starter stuff that is designed to wick away moisture.

Hi again, I just did a look see, Van Nuys hit 117. You seem to be  in a small pocket of extreme heat, even our old Yorba Linda area only hit 95, which would be nasty enough. Las Vegas was even cooler than you have been. Since you  are stuck there please be prepared to call emergency services maybe even ready to get to a shelter if needed.

Did you lose food supplies?   By the way  I fill every space in the freezer with freezer baggies of water ( Ice) to fill all the voids and to be able to use as body cooling ice when power goes out  during a hurricane. That keeps us cool long enough to get  cleared away and then get away if needed. Might try it as a practice for there too.

Thankfully we didn't lose the food....the freezer foods were still frozen, I had a bunch of them and never opened that door.  The fridge part did finally get a slight bit warmer but so far so good on the foods there.

Ha, I just realized you are a worse night owl than I am! The older I get the lesser I sleep.

Never did sleep all that much myself. Being  "on call" for much of my working life, and getting up at all hours to "spring" into action makes one a very light sleeper, kind of sleeping one eye at a time.

Oh, yes, I'm a terrible night owl!   Everytime we have to change the clocks backwards or forwards, I seem to be awake later!  Sometimes I go to bed earlier, need to work on it....but you people at the forum are such fascinating individuals, I keep on reading and posting! ?

Being a mother turns you into a light sleeper too, as well as shift work.  And then not to mention loss of hormones later in life, heh.

In the province of Quebec, here in Canada, over 50 people have died as a result of the heat wave....I was shocked to hear that, it's like a massacre!  Mostly elderly and mentally ill who live alone and have no A/C and nobody to check on them and look after them....so sad.  The weather seems to be having wider swings from one extreme to another lately....polar vortexes for most of the winter and now oppressing heat.  We're having a reprieve of cooler weather the last couple of days in Ontario though, enjoying it while we can.

Bucket of ice water is good for a bit of relief as well, just sit down in a comfy chair, stick your feet in the bucket and say "aaaaaaahhhhhhh".

I didn't realize Canada could have deadly heat waves!   Sorry to hear of the people dying!

Oh my..... that's the reason we never moved to Phoenix!!  After a slight earthquake here in 1971, the few family members we had here moved to Phoenix.  One time while visiting them, I tried walking from my uncle's where I was staying to my other uncle nearby.   The other uncle didn't answer the door and I was about perishing with the heat.....so thankfully found a 7-11 and ducked in there for a beverage and went back to uncle Leo's.

Saw a mailman delivering the mail at noon in Phoenix (in Summer).... couldn't understand how he could do it!   My brain felt baked!

In the summer, we have a monsoon. Going through that now. (I love the monsoon here.) During the monsoon, large amounts of folks are often without power. Today, the city of buckeye was without power. The power companies crews are swift to restore power within hours. Rarely do power outages last more than 24 hrs. During that time, there are emergency shelters set up at schools (the ones that still have power) for folks to hang out and cool off. In addition, there are trucks that bring free ice out to neighborhoods so that folks can use that to cool off or keep food cool.

News about buckeyes power outage. Its a suburb of phoenix. 10k people were without power. All has been restored by now, according to the power companys website. Fixed within 5 hrs.

Your state is prepared for earthquake emergencies. Mine is prepared for heat emergencies.

That's nice you get Monsoon rains!  I miss rain, we rarely get it.   Also, great your city is so quick to restore power, etc.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
