This thread just popped up on my notifications.

Last night, a dear loved one was asking me to prove God exists, and mentioned specifically Noah and the flood. I prayed to Jesus, but my mind just went blank and I couldn't think.

Then tonight, I see this thread, and also posted on here are two websites that explains Genesis, to help us describe it to people.

Another easy answer - yes.

And I believe He said something different from what you think He said.

Although I don't believe it is the case, I admit that I could be wrong. After all, God is the omniscient one, not me. I don't harbor illusions that my understanding is perfect and anyone that disagrees with me is wrong and is calling God a liar.

Any sort of calculation is an inference from what the Bible says - certainly not taken directly from scripture.

Good, we are moving past "If you disagree with me, then you are calling God a liar" to "I believe you are wrong because..." The latter indicates Biblical humility, while the former does not.

Not necessarily - the ancient Hebrew word used to describe the area that would be impacted is eretz, and like many words in ancient Hebrew, it has a variety of possible meanings. It can mean (and frequently does in the OT) a large area, but not the entire planet. A flood covering all of the mountains in a specific area would not require that the entire planet be covered by the flood.

Yes Genesis 9 contains Gods promise, repeated twice, was never to destroy all life, never to destroy the earth with water. the magnitude of the flood was a global from such a promise is not a local or regional flood.

No. I believe the Word of God says something different from what you think it says. There is a difference between disagreeing with the Word of God and disagreeing with a person that thinks their views are inerrant.

I'm no scientific expert, but this must mean seawater must have reached these levels at one time. And missmuffet is right in saying, if the bible says there was a flood, surely there was one. My idea is maybe the world was flat before the flood. The flood caused the mountains. You are correct about shells and sea creature fossils on high mountains and hills and valleys. The evidence is there and documented.
