Am I being led astray in my thoughts? Do old people have any business getting new pets, dogs? And do I really need a so called classic car?

I find I have come close to obtaining  another old car, a classic ya know. I don't need one, I have one already  that sits, I just hold onto it for my grandson.  I am looking at opportunities for acquiring a dog too. Yet I travel between a couple of States and do want to travel a bit to  a few places just for  the fact they are interesting. I am already stuck with a cat.

So... What is the emotion that drives one to want what may be impractical? A dog  is a serious investment, a real chewing up of time. Another old vehicle, where do I put one? Do I really start investing in garage space?

But old vehicle prices are dropping some and there are lots of dogs available too. Is it opportunity or just a fool's venture? Can always admire another's old vehicle, and can pet another's dog too. But I think I do miss having a dog. And I might like to be part of the classic car scene rather than just visit it. My mind wants to turn a wrench, but my body, well not so much, so half the fun will not be there it will have to be a turn key  type purchase of someone else's hard work.

I think  am talking myself out of  either, maybe sanity wins out, but is sanity always  the fun way of living?

Maybe a boat.... Maybe I need to go back to work somewhere I am getting bored I guess. Maybe flip houses, no  not that one again, been there already. Foster a dog? Hmm.

What do y'all do when this kind of nuttiness strikes you ( If it does)?  Maybe one or the other is opportunity to get out and also share of our Lord. ???

Oh well, praise God for rescuing me from all this by removing every spare dollar I once possessed. I ain't kidding Neighbor, be careful that God doesn't make this question become nothing but a memory.

Very very good thought!!! Thanks.

Yes I am also rather aware of my own budget constraints and choices I must make. That is one reason I am hesitant to do anything except  applaud the work of others on those cars. As to a dog, my wife misses  having one, I think. She takes me to  rescue centers, and scans their inventories online. That  pulls on my heart strings, but really at my age, a dog? I don't know.

Different dog species have different lifespans. If you'd rather not outlive your dog, you could always consider shortlived ones. Though, even then, it would probably be wise to have someone in mind who could inherit it. Wiser still to let the dog get used to them, as a new owner with a new home suddenly out of nowhere might throw the dog off. Small visitations, just so the dog is familiar with the person and their home.

As for the car thing... Do you just feel like doing something with your hands? You could always do smaller things, like build models or nail some wood together. Any number of craft-oriented hobbies out there, from papier-mache to putting together stained glass art/windows. I'm not near enough to retirement age, but i've considered doing some whittling or blacksmithing if and when I do. I'd try going online and either list my creations for sale or try to take up comissionary work; that way I could get coin back for the materials used and still have a source of income.

A car, though, I don't think i'd personally go for that. Little too much of a price tag, as well any number of issues that can crop up. You do you, if cars are more your speed.

Hi Neighbor,

Having any animal requires a lot of invested time, love and attention. What are your feelings for you cat? This may help make it clear if you need to get another animal in the house. I great cure for boredom is to help someone in need, this way your focus is on others rather than self. I found this works for me whenever I feel myself thinking too much of me.

First of all I pray to God about my immediate desires. I ask Him if I really need a major purchase I have been thinking about. I don't buy it impulsively and I give it some time. Usually it really is an impractical purchase and thought and I do not end up buying it. You have to use common sense. Now if your automobile breaks down and you can not get anywhere I think that would be a priority purchase.

Hi all, thanks. And yes funny  stuff in those responses too!" If that is my speed".

Actually I have a problem buying stuff, I have a hard time doing it.

Right now I am a bit bored, lacking any  what seems to be productive  efforts. I am waiting for Christmas to pass into January so I can get on the road and start into  a small amount of help within a ministry similar to one I was involved in long ago.

A dog? I have thought no I am too old, but am I selfish?  For my wife is not too old and she kinda misses one.

So I have been looking and analyzing and  just holding off having to get to the part where I part with assets to acquire anything for "myself" alone.

As I have shared of before I can hardly get through a store  to a check out line without instead going back and putting everything  back on the shelves and walking out empty handed.  I do enjoy old cars, but....

The one I do have was a very special almost spiritual experience, in fact I  was led to it and it served me and the seller. The seller had ministry needs to meet, and I had an experience to fulfill, to actually get back into the game of life after suffering deep loss. I hold that vehicle for  another, for a time to yet come about.

I just  wonder if I am being led once again, or just musing. So I ask what others have had in such experiences themselves. There is no right or wrong answer nor advice, there is only sharing;  and that is helpful ( to me). So thanks.

Hi Neighbor I guess your never too old to get a dog. And its shown people live longer if they own a pet. So that's a good benefit lol. Also a dog is loyal more then a lot of humans. I am not trying to influence you but it's the way I feel. I am 66 and am looking to get one too. I love labs. Hope you get one.

Hi Wayne,

I  have had as many as  four dogs, a rabbit, a cat, three teens and three adults in this household at one time, that's not countig the fish tanks from 50 to 150 gallons each. Three generations under one roof, and cherish the memories today. Course I wasn't in my now approaching late seventies either.

I have survived the 168 pound Great Dane the giant Siberian Husky, the big Doberman/shepherd the fun  but wild eyed Beagles and even a Toy Poodle ,along with now  a total of two feral cats, and two rabbits. Years ago I also walked the neighbor's  monster shepherd when he was out to sea months on end.

Today I am,  well a bit fearful, can I handle a dog that suddenly gets it in his head to be aggressive to a strange dog and snaps his choke collar apart? I have had to tackle our own Great  Dane in the past. I can't be doing that today.

But the memories are mostly fun, and I do kinda like the idea. I also remember my neighbor breaking his own collar bone and arm when his  lab decided a squirrel  was fair game to be chasing while on a walk. He pulled his large owner over and caused the injury. At some point perhaps we do get too old. I may not bounce anymore.

Still my bride will like one, but  I didn't much enjoy spending my day searching around hotels and commercial  alleys when her cat got loose while we were traveling. Fact I got downright cantankerous that day. Cat had itself a lot of new names by the time  it was found by a kindly hotel worker, one of many joining the hunt.

Gee I think I may have talked myself right out of any mood to be buying anything  except some rice for tonight's Cod fish dinner. Exciting menu there, eh?

Ha just remembered the first time  my bride's cat got looseI thought I had found it and ended up bringing it into the house all by my lonesome. and later found I had brought a strange cat into the house. Hey all look alike to me. I was a hero-not!

Yup I definitely am past thinking about getting a live pet of any kind.

Old cars, well I am safe until the Mecum auction come January. There I can't really dicker on the price, just outbid someone else is all. So  it is not likely, not likely at all. I do hate the idea of paying retail ask price on anything never mind proving I am willing to pay more than anyone else for something.

Guess I'm safe from myself. Thanks all!

You sound hesitant, unsure. Your the only one who can answer, though.
My wife has a NEED to have a fish, cat/dog, chickens, a half a zillion wild bird feeders,
(hanging down at head height when mowing the yard).
Her needs are simple, to take care of another. I'm cool.
As long as I do not have to share my home with the sucker:)
(I thought a dozen grand kids close by would be enough)
As for being retired and 'rest less', get busy, as when you don't use it, you lose it.
Physically/mentally...........
Press on, at whatever you decide, 'With all your might'.
Wife decided to sky dive at sixty five. And start a business at sixty seven.
She works out about three times a week at the gym. (Me in my shop, working)
We eat good, and she makes sure it's healthy, as we and not 'diet doctors' have determined.
I don't know about these issues, Neighbor, as I'm still cranking out cabinets in my business.
I do know when I have slack and caught up with some time on my hands, I feel a
little anxious, as not accomplishing something, anything, to see some kind of results. Doing something.
I do know, and have told this before, that if I wake up and first thing say my good mornings to the Lord,
I try to remember to ask Him to help me be a blessing to Him, to someone else, or even to myself, this/each day.
I have had some very cool experiences. God answers prayers.
From fixing grand kids bicycle tires to a total stranger God sent to hear the gospel!
It's good for our soul........
God is Light!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
