I know that SALT is a good thing, and is useful for many reasons.

During the 30+years with the Lord, I unfortunately have not seen much SALT in the congregations, and the believers. 😔

Personally I believe that one of the reasons, is that it cost too much to be SALT! It is much easier and more comfortable to be light, right?

Anyway, I wanna be SALT no matter what it cost, and I hope you will too. 😊

Yes, MonicaWife, salt, and light go hand in hand. Salt is a preservative and has medicinal properties, it adds flavor and seasoning. In the absence of light, we are lost, stumble around blindly, and injure ourselves.

Therefore I need to be both light and salt, right? Hopefully I am....

It is hard to be both Salt or to be light.

In a corrupt world salt stings and light revials the coruption.

A Christian has to live by gods moral standards not the worlds and that at its simplist is the ten commadments.

In a moral enviroment being visible different can be very difficult, in my experience it oftenis reduced to honesty over little things like not taking work pens home, asking permission to make personal phone calls at work and not using bad language.

The real difficulty is not laughing at dirty jokes.

Matthew 5: 13

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

While salt can preserve and flavor almost any food, it is useless to add good salt to bad, and salt that has become corrupted should be thrown away. In the same way, disciples are useless in the kingdom of heaven without true moral character and spiritual commitment to the King. It also implies the rottenness of the world, which needs the preservative of the salt.

I was off doing a little study this morning about the 10 virgins and their oil waiting for the Bridegroom.  In doing that study I went off to salt and light.  Then I pop on Worthy and the first thing I see is a post about SALT.  As @missmuffet said, once salt has gone bad it it useless and needs to be thrown out.  It no longer works as a flavor enhancer and a preservative.  In fact it is spread out on the ground to be tromped under feet (those walking in the ice and snow) just as Jesus said in Matthew 5:13.  I love it that salt is an antibacterial mineral made by God.  We are called to the salt and light.  Jesus says we are the salt of the earth.  We are here to add the Lord's flavor into the lives of those we have in our circle of life.  We are here to be a preservative of His word and His ways.  With Jesus continually living in our heart, minds and souls we will not lose our saltiness!  The Holy Spirit will continually guide us and give us the saltiness required for these end times.

I found this good study on salt to share.  https://outlawbiblestudent.org/can-the-salt-of-earth-lose-its-flavor/

I really use too much salt according to my Doctor.
It taste's great and makes good food greater.....:)

Leviticus 2:13 says, “And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.”
(Even God wanted us to use salt on our offerings)

"According to Dictionary.com, salt of the earth means “an individual or group
considered as representative of the best or noblest elements of society.”

I feel that if I want to be the salt of the earth, I should start by not judging my fellow believers.
Most preachers/pastors agree that more than 50% of their members are lost.
I shouldn't expect them to be the salt of the earth, and it is not my job to determine who.
I have often misjudged another brethren not knowing the overwhelming struggles they were dealing with.
Hiding the word in my heart (memorizing) is one way I act as preserving salt.
Another way is to encourage others who are struggling in their walk, and pray for them.
There are many ways to be salt. When I'm abiding in Christ, the fruit that I bear is not produced by me.
It is only displayed by me. Without Christ, I can do nothing. It is produced by Jesus, the true vine.
Not I but Christ. In me.

Neat post Monica, and thanks for the encouragement.

First, the question itself, can salt lose that salty flavor. If it remains pure, no..... but when additives or other impurities have been added to it, those additives and/or impurities degrade over time causing the salt to also degrade or change. Salt cannot lose its flavor unless exposed to certain conditions or contains additives/impurities. When it becomes polluted it loses it flavor through change.

I think the passage from James is helpful with the analogy in Matthew. The worlds thoughts, and philosophies should not be mixed into our lives as Christians, as these things taint our witness, making it worthless in the eyes of the world. We are to be an influence upon the world, not the other way around.

James 1:27 (LB)
The Christian who is pure and without fault, from God the Father’s point of view, is the one who takes care of orphans and widows, and who remains true to the Lord—not soiled and dirtied by his contacts with the world.

James 1:27 (NASB)
Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

James 1:27 (NIV)
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Light exposes who and what is hiding in the dark. Darkness cannot hide and run from the light. Darkness is the natural state without the Light.

Stick close to the Word and the Word will stay in you~:

Salt and Light
13You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its savor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. Matthew 5:13-15

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
