Your not the only one who has considered this, as I have been at the point of saying on some heated debates that could it be that both "sides" are mostly correct, in that there were some the Father "chose"to be guaranteed believers, and the rest of the "whosoevers" received their faith to believe by hearing the word.
I hesitated to jump in to the discussion lest I only open up another can of worms...

Will be interesting to see what unfolds, Selah..

Exciting scriptures here:

just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

- Ephesians 1:4,11-13

in Him, Selah

Thank you all for your taking part.

I had a specific reason for the question, which I did articulate and Omega did a nice job of adding to my intent and position.

In short, the faith I refer to is what is required to enter through the gate, not an ongoing daily faith as we walk in Him subsequent to our being birthed. I also pointed to how our thinking on this can affect other things. Not for all, but certainly for some. Do you feel more special than the the other folks because ‘you’ in and of your own choice, gained salvation…the choice and initial action was yours not God’s. That points to the starting point being ‘works’. That is where difficulties can fertilize.

I think this OP has accomplished what I intended. I do not want it to devolve into one of many cal/arm debates, so I request it be locked. @Omegaman 3.0

God bless and thank you.

PS, sis…sometimes a short answer suffices.

:-)

"Do you feel more special than the the other folks because ‘you’ in and of your own choice, gained salvation…the choice and initial action was yours not God’s"

Shucks, was hoping the OP was about faith and not election.
I see, like you said Alive, to beware the enemy getting a foothold here.
Right now he's knocking on my door...

I never even Knew anything about calvinism or their beliefs till about ten-15 yrs ago. Only in the past ten or so years did I learn about the tulip list of beliefs. Two of my good friends at church got caught up in it and left and lost fellowship. Sad. I studied their beliefs for two years with one.  When he finally said God chose the saved, and inversely the lost, I quit listening.
That ended all discussion.

And as far as the question above, never in my wildest dreams have I ever thought anything about what you have said
"more special than the the other folks because ‘you’ in and of your own choice, gained salvation"

The total opposite is my experience, in that those calvinist I have met and know have no humility when they consider they were hand picked by God and had no part in believing. (if I believe as they I probably would feel the same:))

I could care less about the whole thing if it didn't keep coming up and being pushed, for a fruitless non end.

It was God, through His WORD, (He is the Word) that drew me,
watered me, saved me. I did not save myself,
****I JUST DID WHAT HE TOLD ME TO DO-I BELIEVED****

I am humbled that the creator of the universe would save a wretch like me.
And, I still do not know the purpose of this thread.

Is saving faith a 'work' or a 'deed'?

Titus 3:5 (NAS20S) He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Sower, please read carefully each word I posted in this OP--there aren't many.

You might think better of me.

Mebelieves that yeah, His sheep know their Master.  They know His voice.  And His sheep were either chosen by God before the foundation of the world, or they were given free will by God to choose His Son Jesus.  There are 2 groups, I think.  Both are Elect.  Does that sound too far out there?  I can provide scriptural support tomorrow afternoon as to why I believe this to be true.  Goodnight, Om.     ...Selah

This is the understanding I have arrived at as well, sister.

Before it gets locked ...

In no way do I feel special because Im saved, no matter which side of the cal/arm debate Im on. I feel humbled and unworthy of His grace and mercy.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
