I never tried to make soup from a ham bone ,I do from  chicken and turkey bones..

When you leave some meat on the bone, it makes a very good soup and because it is heftier than birds….the result is better without as many additives. Also, leaving bone pieces in the soup is never an issue.

try it.

Yum, I love soups!

We do too, and every now and then I will make a big pot. I remember as a kid and young adult I really liked Campbell's Condensed Soup, especially bean with bacon (that tiny piece of pork fat). Either my taste buds changed or they do not make it the way they used to? It is no longer, "umm umm good."

They have removed salt and fat.

Do you know you can buy a bag of frozen vegetables and dry them in the oven? It's good for soups,I didn't try it yet, but I did try drying carrots .

I hadn't thought of that but it seems neat. Thanks for sharing!

Instead of throwing leftovers out, reuse and or recycle them.

When I cook, I'll sometimes cook a bunch of something, buy freezer bags and freeze the rest. Cooked meat can be frozen and thawed to re heat.

If I have a large bag of chicken breasts I'll cook the whole bag at once. While this doesn't necessarily save money, it saves time. Can save energy used in the cooking one large batch .vs multiple batches firing up a stove multiple times.

I use a crock pot or insta cooker a lot. A very easy and pain free way to cook a lot of food at once with minimum hassle. If you can find crock pot liners you don't need to clean the crock pot.

You can't beat a discount grocer where they sell dinged up cans and almost outdated product. These places get these products from the main grocery stores for a variety of reasons- Maybe a product has been discontinued or isn't selling, so the grocer would rather sell it at a slight loss and get something for it than put it in the trash bin.

The place I sometimes buy from here locally sells 'almost outdated' product. It's still in date, but it might expire in only a few days or a week so the grocer sells it to a discount store knowing it's headed for the bin.

In the US our food is dated to expire in an overly generous way, meaning that for many items that item is still good well past the expiration date. A few Amish guys here locally found connections to local grocers for their unwanted product and built hugely successful businesses out of it. There's an idea for a business if you don't have one locally.

Inflation has hit these guys too but STILL as an example, I can buy a block of cheddar cheese for around a 1$. In the store it's 3.00. Milk and teas maybe 1.50 instead of 3.50 at the store. Frozen dinners and pizza at least half price. Cereal priced at 4.00 at the grocer is often less than half. Canned goods the same. If you plan to eat most of the food that week a close expiration date will not hurt you.

I took a break and started a soup.

large ham bone, and for herbs and spices---oregano, sweet basil, garlic salt, ground black pepper, onion powder and a good cupla dashes of pure virging olive oil.

Later, I may cut up some kielbasa.

This will slow cook all day and the meat will all be off the bone.

Oh ya--I decided to leave out the chili beans.

In Canada prices have been always higher then in the States and I agree you can save a lot if you shop smart :)

Did you ever try to make yogurt in your instapot? It's the best :)

That looks really good!

I feel like making a pan of soup now too :)

Don't you find the soup will gel too much if you start with a ham bone?

Do you use a smoked ham bone?

I'm thinking about making this later today:

GERMAN APPLE CAKE INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup butter + 1/2 tablespoon

1/2 cup sugar plus 2 tablespoons 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or sugar 1½ tablespoons grated lemon zest

1 pinch salt

3 eggs large

1 2/3 cups all purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder

2 tablespoons milk whole or reduced fat

TOPPING 1½ pounds apples organic, juicy (I used Gala apples)

2 tablespoons butter melted 2 tablespoons apricot jam 1 tablespoon water

In a stand mixer, cream butter, sugar, vanilla extract, lemon zest and salt, until fluffy. Add eggs and beat mixture until light and fluffy.  Combine flour and baking powder. Add flour and milk alternatively at low speed.  Peel, quarter and core apples. Using a paring knife, make several parallel slits on the peeled side. Transfer batter to cake pan. Arrange apple quarters on cake batter in a flower like pattern. Brush melted butter on apples. Bake at 350º F until golden brown.  Make syrup with apricot jam.  And brush it on the hot cake.  Dust with powdered sugar and cool completely.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
