Ayin jade, you are lucky in a way. I usually need to remember to set the clock before I go to bed, and am an hour too early or late for Sunday School. This time, I can take advantage of manipulating my time using unconventional thought and modern technology.

I must think outside of the box, as the wife is always saying to me, “Okay, Einstein, now what?”

I remembered yesterday evening because I was outside and getting close to finishing a chore, but it was too dark at 6:00 P.M., and I wanted to complete my tasks. I thought, since it is official and government-sanctioned, I’ll knock out two stones with one bird. One more hour of daylight would be good, but two would even be better. I’m starting to like all these modern conveniences.

I rushed into the house and grabbed a battery-powered clock, and went outside facing the West. Began turning the hands backward, one hour, two hours, nothing; in fact, it was still getting darker. Then it hit me that battery power is not connected to the grid. Spring forward, fall back, I may need to face East; I am not sure, let’s do both.

So, my smart microwave and smart stove are connected to the grid. Four hours later, when I found the instruction manuals on how to reset the clocks to adjust them, I set them back six hours to gets me some light. I could not figure it out; THEN IT HIT ME!

What’s wrong with me? They didn’t wear wristwatches or have clocks back then; they used SUNDIALS! 😊 Now I’m cooking with propane!

I gathered a stick and some rocks to make my sundial and set it up. How does a sundial operate when everything is dark and a shadow? I tried using a battery-powered flashlight, but it would not work, probably because it was not connected to the grid. Please don’t ask how I connected an electrical cord to my battery flashlight.

Thoughts?

Edit (7:10 A.M. CST): It is a clear, crisp bluebird day with no clouds in the sky. My sundial is working perfectly, but now I do not need it. A broken clock is correct twice a day. Is that true also for a sundial? I tried setting my sundial back an hour, but a tree covered the shadow, so I cut it down. How many inches, and which way do I correct for only an hour?

Got to go; I hear the wife yelling, “hey, Einstein,” once again.

To make a long story short, "atomic" clocks measure time by monitoring the resonant frequency of atoms. As far as timepieces go, they're the most accurate. 

Other clocking systems lose seconds here and there (that adds up), but atomic clocks don't.
