I realize 99.9% of christians believe it is a sin to get drunk. Probably the 1% aren't saved or just don't care. I have doubts...and I hate those. I realize everyone here will have a 100% strict answer but I don't have one. Maybe because I'm in college and everyone parties? I'm around it all the time? I'm not sure. But here's my doubt. It says in the bible that wine is a mocker...don't fall to drunkeness etc etc...where is the "do not get drunk" part? I can tell my friend, hey don't get wasted tonight you have an exam at 9am. It's obvious the right choice is to study and not go out. But he chooses to party and may or may not do well on the exam. His choice, none are wrong choices per say, one is obviously the better more "responsible" action, the other isn't. Not looking before pulling into traffic...not against the law per say unless you hit someone...obviously it's better to look and then cross. I've been drunk. It's fun. Sometimes I don't mean to..just happens..but if I do nothing wrong while drunk...say just watching a baseball game with a buddy of mine...where is the harm? I know about alcoholism but that's part of the smarter not to drink so much decision i've already gone over. I realize some think it's a sin to drink in any amount. I'm not looking for that either.

So I guess open the flood gates haha...but please be real honest...I'd rather have a hardcore response than sugar coating it.

God Bless...

Andrew

The human brain is a magnificent thing when it is alive and well and functioning properly. It takes in an enormous amount of information.... sorts through it and lets you make thousands of little decisions a minute. All the way from keeping your blood pressure in a livable range with the oxigen content proper, to "is that car coming down the road going to run over me."

The brain functioning has all kinds of safety checks to keep us safe and to keep us from doing things that will hurt ourselves or others.

When a person over drinks to the point of becoming "drunk" that person bypasses much of these safety checks and makes everyone who gets into this condition much more likely to do something that he/she should not do.

In the old testament days when the temple was active, the priests were not allowed to enter the temple if they had been drinking for fear of doing or saying something that would bring down the wrath of God on them and the land of Israel. Since we are now the temple and God resides within us through the Holy Spirit, then we should never over drink because if you are a born again christian, God is with you all the time..... So take care what position you put yourself into all through your life.

Is it a sin to be drunk..... I could not say that for certain, but you are responsible for every thing you say or do "or not do" no matter what the condition you are in. Any person in a drunken state is very vunerable to causing themselves much to be sorrowful for. Will getting drunk send you to hell...... probably not, but the things that you do, or things that happen that you should have not let happen could. It is not a sin unto death, but a very dangerous position to be in. When those safety checks are bypassed, Satan has a much better influence on you...... no matter who you are....

As a Christian.......I do have some drinks every now and then. Its at home.

I serve others by being the designated driver when I go out with friends.

you are so right otherone. i saw my 18yr brother drunk for the first time ever last night (this morning actually, his friend brought him over at 1am). he started saying and doing a whole bunch of things that made no sense (e.g my mom was trying to find out what happened and he walked out on her saying he had to pee, he turned off the bathroom light and relieved himself, and walked out in his underwear). he kept yelling at my mom and telling her that he had serious problems and he was seeing his guidance councillor about them and that he wouldnt tell her what they where cos she wouldnt understand and she would tell everybody (that part is true). i have never seen my brother like that and it scared me so much. he is VERY quiet and reserved to the point of almost being a shy person and i wouldnt have expected him to act in such a way. i so dont know what to do or say to him. we usually dont talk about those kinds of things anyways. i guess i have been blind, he is probably going through a lot and i refuse to see it. the huge gash on his arm and the multiple cuts on his back sure says a lot....no one knows when they happened or how. we only saw them after they healed and he refused to tell my mom what actually happened. i absolutely dont know what to do. he never talks to anyone and never tells us whats going on. i guess he convinced himself that no one in this house understands.

*sigh*

How do you define drunk? I could have six beers and get totally pie eyed, but my 250 pound friend packs away 6 beers and blows nearly 0% on a breathalizer

Matthew 15

11 Not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.

1 Cor 6:12 All things are permissable but not all things are profitable.

Mark 7: 14 And turning to the people again, he said to them, Give ear to me all of you, and let my words be clear to you:

15 There is nothing outside the man which, going into him, is able to make him unclean: but the things which come out of the man are those which make the man unclean.

Ya'll.......I truly believe that this is an issue between each one of us and God.

We know that a drunkard would be compared to an alcoholic.......being drunk all of the time. That isn't any of us on this string as far as I know.

Some of us on this string do not drink at all. This is fine.

Some of us on this string do drink, yes some of us do get drunk and some of us don't. There are so many circumstances in this gray area. I believe getting drunk can lead to further sin, but it all depends on where you are to me. If I am at home and drinking with my friends. None of us are going anywhere I don't see that as a big issue.

Again this gray area is something each one of us needs to take to the Father. We all need to pray and find out what are convictions are on this particular subject.

I know for me I have done unimaginable things when I used to drink I wouldn't do now. I was the chief of sinners. My wife in AA for 10 yrs. helps me repent.

I've only had 1 beer in last 12 mos. I don't miss the chaos it brought to me & the people in my life it ruined.

I've gotten drunk three times in my life....Lord help me to never let it happen again. It was NOT a pleasant experience. Apart from doing stupid things and saying things I wouldn't normally say, it made me very sick...it also made me crave oranges. I did discover that I tend to have a mothering instinct (I was SO drunk one time, and yet I NEEDED to find some fresh ginger to make a tea to help my friend who was feeling sick...I was rifling through her fridge and everything), but I also turn into an emotional basket-case, which is not fun (especially considering I grew up in a family which has this unspoken tendancy to see great shows of emotion as a lack of self-discipline). *shrug* anyway, the point is, even if I didn't believe getting drunk is a sin (which I do), I just don't understand why people enjoy it so much.

hah...that's funny...

Peaches: sorry to hear about your brother :-( hope he's ok.

I guess for some it's white and black...not even a grey issue. For others it's grey...I used to go to this church that spoke against drinking all together. Spoke that it was a sin to have even drop...for many other reasons I left that church and am quite happy at this other one. But going from that to having a beer with the worship leader...just kinda confuses me lol...but like that one person said (sorry too lazy to go back and find who posted it haha) it's a relationship issue more than a rule or right and wrong issue.

Well, hat -

If you insist on getting drunk ;) . . .

make sure you drink lots and lots of water at the same time.

too much alcohol will overtax your liver and eventually lead to liver damage. But more water will help dilute the alcohol in your system.

Also, the more hydrated you are, the less hangover symptoms you'll be feeling later. Most hangover ills are actually dehydration ills.

As per your question - what does it do for your witness?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
