We are all nasty at one time or another..

The person you talked with may not have meant to be nasty at all..

You don't want to be nasty..they probably don't either..

That is why God gave us those wonderful Scriptures on forgiving and forgiving and forgiving and

....I think I will quit before I get to 70 x's 7 of them..

But I know just how you feel..I know I have sure been nasty at times... :24:

Yup...and the Lord will change us...its a promise...

remember the cute little saying "Lord make my words tender for tomorrow I may have to eat them."

You asked, "Dealing With Nasty People, What do you do?"

Simple.

IGNORE THEM!

If their opinion holds no value for you AND if they do not hold your respect, why care about anything they have to say? :24:

IGNORE THEM!

Jesus' situation was different. When he rebuked the Pharisees and Sanducees and Herodians, he did so not for their benefit and not for his defense BUT rather the benefit of all those seekers watching and listening. Each and every time, he amazed the crowd with His words.

Responding in a like manner to people that are nasty sure does seem like the easy way to do things. and heaven knows I've done it. but I know in my heart that its wrong. I try to remember that it is satan who driving that post and the only way to really have a come back is to let Jesus do it for you...

I was on a tech forum, and I posted a problem I was having with my video card not wanting to play nice with Linux. The technical problem has since been cleared up, but there was another problem in the process. While most of the responses were helpful, one guy or gal was a total jerk.

This person's post was basically "get a real video card instead of the junk you are using" type of reply.

Not real helpful, and I have to confess that my response to his post wasn't exactly "Christlike". I basically replied that if he wanted me to have a new video card, he could send the $500 or so for it, or he could shut up. I apologized later, but at the time it seemed SO appropriate! (And yeah, it felt really great at the time too. )

One of the reasons for that reaction is that I've spent about the last 8-10 years living hand-to-mouth, and although I'm grateful to the Lord for keeping me going, it gets real old. I tend to react badly to folks like that who thoughtlessly say things like the above, or "oh, just go out and buy a new one." It's a sore spot. I try to be reasonable about hardware and other things, and I don't need a $500 video card, so please, its not about envy.

I'd just like to handle this type of thing better, more like Jesus would, rather than biting someone's head off.

BTW: It is NOT my intention to start a discussion on the "prosperity gospel." That's for another thread. :)

You have overcome! 1) you feel bad about it, 2) you apologized 3) you recognized why you reacted. Great Job! Way to grow in the Spirit. Now it's all a matter of practice. Luckily, you will probably have plenty more opportunities. lol

The advice to practice is so important. And also important is to think ahead. Plan to respond right during the day. Speak to the Lord about it as your day begins. Tell Him how you are leaning upon the Holy Spirit and that it is your desire and plan to speak in a manner pleasing to Him. When you fall, apologize if feasible, ask for forgiveness, and start again. It is amazing how more and more you will respond in a way that makes you feel better about your responses and is a blessing to others.

God will judge them. Don't worry about it. People are nasty sometimes, but not everyone is like that.

Great verse.....

Romans 12:21 "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

It is hard to deal with nasty people, but God sees everything you do and making the creator smile is a great thing. : )

I believe you must be speaking, generally, to young people if you recieve answers like "just go buy a new one". Young people still living with mom and dad, obviously, with no bills besides maybe a car...possibly a credit card, one that gets paid if they can't come up with the money...

...why it's so important to watch what you say. I'm reminding myself as well.

You want to know what I do now? (now that i know better)

I keep a pleasant tone and tell them to have a good day. When I leave their presence, I offer up a prayer for them to God.

I tell myself that they are just having a bad day. Since we all have bad days from time to time, it just must be their day to have one.

It took a long time to learn this, but it is so much more rewarding that what I used to do, which is pretty much what every one else wants to do.

My pastor likes to say, he's always thankful for the things he doesn't say in a conversation. :b:

Sometimes the best answer is no answer.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
