Why do we teach our children to lie?

When I was growing up, we were taught it all, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause ... My father would take us for a drive Christmas Eve, to see the pretty Christmas lights, mother would fein a head ache, and while we were gone Santa would come and fill the tree with toys and gifts...WE BOUGHT IT! Strange that she never saw him ...

I do not have any strange misconseptions about Santa being real or Jesus Christ NOT being real. I know Santa is a made up character. And I know that Jesus Christ is a man, the Living God, who gave His life so I could keep mine. Praise be to the LORD!

I did not tell my children that Santa existed, though. I did not tell them any of those things. I always believed in telling them the 100% truth about everything. Now I can totally fool them ... "Have I ever lied to you before?" mwuahhahaha [Well, I did try to behave...]

It's been a productive month...

I had three children before I was saved. Them I taught about silly things like Santa and the tooth fairy. Halloween seemed like a harmless holiday that was fun for all the children to get candy and adults to scare the pants off them...when I gave my heart to Jesus, however, and I read the Bible from cover to cover...there just seemed to be something wrong with telling my children about things that the world fights Christians over. The world wants Jesus out of Christmas...but Santa on a pedistal. The world wants Jesus hushed in schools...but the devil paraded around on halloween. The world wants Jesus to be anything but the Saviour who died on a cross for our sins...but the Easter bunny is just sooo cute...he'll even bring you a basket of goodies!

I absolutely am in Awe of the One who gave His life for me! He is an Awesome God and He says in His word He will share His glory with no one!

So, when I thought on teaching my children the big lies about those fairy tale charactors( yes, even the fictional charactor we made of Saint Nick)...I realized we were not honoring the Lord in telling our children those things that are not true..we are making idols for them to look to so they will be good. The Bible says to train up our children. There are direct promises involved in the way we train up our children. I want my children to have all the blessings of the Lord. So...I taught them that Santa was really me putting gifts under the tree...the tooth fairy was really Momma putting that coin in place of a tooth...and the easter bunny never out shinned the Cross at Easter.

Here is one place in the Bible that gives promises over our children and tells us what we should teach them.

high greetings i had read what you had posted in your topic being a father of two boys both my eldest to my first relationship when i was young knew that santa was not real mark is 16 my youngest ethan also knows the truth as i have seen wear so many are living in poverty to wear its only the rich mans santa and santa only comes to a rich mans house while we have many homeles people and homeless kids and single mothers living in fear as living this life is very hard and dangerouse for any person who has not got a nice home parents who work and a roof over their head

i am even of the streets my self freed from sin and can you as a person honestly tell me that you would lie too one of these people and tell them that santa wil get them out of the situation that they are in i have also heard while living on the streets that santa punishes people that are bad and only gives out pressents to people that are good and many feel that santa will get them out off the rut they are in this is what i notice when it comes to a rich mans santa who is only their for the rich

i see this each chritmass in my comunity freed from sin while you have those that can afford to have a good christmas wear many on christmas day wake up and find under the christmass tree pressents and sit back to a good feed while in the other part of the comunity i live in you have poor familys on a center link payment fighting kids waking up to no pressents and then you see their faces its as if they are saying what did i do wrong why is santa always skipping my place i pray to santa each year and i ask santa to help my mother help my father find a good job i also pray for a pressent for my brothers and my sisters why does santa hate me and my family and my cussins so much

around this time while you are getting ready to bring in christmas many also end up committing suicide and the violence goes up as wel so when i came across your topic and had read threw this topic can you honestly tell me that you wil lie to your child as its the parents that work hard when it comes to christmas the pressents we get come out of our own money we work for threw the week or threw the fortnight as people like my self get payed fortnightly and some get payed weekly why would you lie to a child and tel them that santa bought the pressents that are under the tree

i also hear parents fight over what their kids want for christmas and its like black mail to to wear if a child is wanting something and you know that child is playing up you say if you do not behave threw out this year santa wil not bring you a thing as santa sees you as a bad child who deserves to be punished

kids wil want the most expensive toy out and some times familys can not afford these expensives toys yet you work hard do some weekend work cut back your free time just so you can buy your child that expensive toy that other kids wil get who have mothers and fathers that are rich and know they wil always get the best toys that come out each year

also in the comunity i live in we have one group that plans brake and enters as they know in the rich comunity kids wil have plenty of cool things under the tree like mobil ph stereos play stations and the list goes on a lot of hard work goes into this and these are only 8 to 18 yr old youth that i know doing this and each year they better them selves and out smart the cops and out smart the alarms that is put in these kids i know are not stupid

only 2 yrs ago we had two brothers very young while every one was bringing in christmas harvery norman was set a light and these two young brothers stood back and watched the store go up in smoke while the fire brigade and every one else that lives near to wear our church is stood back and watched over 1 million dollars in damage done and when the two brothers wear cought it was the very two young ones that wear talking to the police and the fire brigade thinking it wil be cool just to hurt the white man on christmas day as these kids miss out to what we give to our own kids

i made a prommise my sons mother made a prommise as we did not belive in lying to ethan and ethan also shares and gives his toys away to kids that have got nothing what ever ethan has he has worked for it as he knows that money does not fall from the sky and when ever my son sees a kid in need or some one is missing out he invites them home threw the school holidays my youngest who is only 11 works with his mother i get him when he wants to have time out with dad he knows how to wash dishes he can make good coffee what you get in a coffe shop and al the coffe that people like buying he can even cook a pizza he is as big as me for his age i am 6 foot 1 so he over powers the boys under his age and he is a lovable child this is how we have raised our own child and i do not see that by what me and my first wife did is wrong

i am cool with parents lying to their kids but i feel sorry for that family when the child does not get what they have been asking sanata

so while you are looking at this i would ask that you think of the less fortunate those you know who live in the poorest comunitys of your town those home less men those street kids that hang out and live on the streets the sex workers trying to make a living selling them selves to men people who sleep in cars how do you think these people would be feeling when it comes to rich mans santa clause ?

i belive in the true meaning of christmas and that is what jesus did for me i go to midnight mass and i help out at a church that has been feeding the poor familys for over 13yrs pressents mean nothing to me like to some as i have had many birthdays and christmases wear i have gotten nothing when i wake up knowing others wil be around family and many kids wil be happy god gives me the peace i need to face this day and this is what i am thank full for i have been on my own since i was 14yrs old i am 4o yrs old know even when i go to my church for christmas service i do not get worked up by hearing how others have had a good christmas i love those that have had gods hands on them and can aford to have a good christmas though i am thank ful for gods blessing over my life and for the holy spirit teaching me the true meaning of christmas and this year i wil be doing the same spending this day with others that have no family
