No it is not, but planning ahead is not the same thing as worry. To know you are not going to be able to work forever and not set something aside to live off of in your olden days (if you have olden days) is just plain stupid........ that's not using your common sense.

Anyone who is not concerned with the things happening today is just plain stupid, or don't understand what is happening.....

Was Jesus worried when he was in the Garden sweating blood the night before his tribulation?????? Did He not ask the Father to remove this from Him if possible.

I wonder if you were 62 if you would have the same thought process....

Well, then I have to thank you for my new title, Stupid! I am 55 and have been having financial troubles for a few years since I was laid off when the company I had been working for. It was purchased by a larger company and they did away with the IT department. Since then, I have been able to work here and there for about half the pay. I was forced to turn in my 401K plan to make ends meet last year. Neither do I have anything to fall back on as far as finances go. Yet, through all this, I worry not, for I know the Lord will provide.

So, my friend, if I take His word seriously and am labeled Stupid for doing so, I wear the label proudly!

God Bless and I do pray that you prosper the rest of your life.

You had a 401k plan and it sounds like it came in handy, and I think that if you had not needed it at the time, you'd still have it and we'd be considering some of the same things..... At 55 you still have seven to ten years to think it over and see what the world financial situation is....... I have less than 8 months, and I don't see things recovering by then. Actually I don't see things recovering in our lifetimes, but alas that's another conspiracy story for another time and place.

You are right. I would still have one and still have a few year left to try again, but as you, my friend, I don't think we will have a choice like we have had in the past.

God Bless, Sam!

I can understand where both of you are coming from. But I was thinking about what Jesus said

Mat 6:26

Look at the birds in the sky. They don't plant or harvest or gather food into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. You are more valuable than they are, aren't you?

Maybe it is all the Garbage we are surrounded with (commercialism). Maybe we were met to live a simpler life, but told different by the world?

Yes, we will not be young all of our lives............so do your best to prepare for this.......But, we are called not to worried.......I believe nothing will happen to us unless God wants it to happen.

Either way .....I choose to praise the name of the LORD!!!

my mom is a widow. when my dad died, he left her the house, the car, and a $23,000 life insurance policy (which is now gone). neither one of my parents put ANYTHING away for retirement. nothing. nada. my dad had $25 in his savings account when he died. both of my parents were forced into early retirement because of health issues. yet, my mom lacks for nothing.

both my parents worked hard all their lives. (the house and the car were both paid for, btw.) they were good christians and giving money to God was a priority for them. they never had much extra, but they were prudent with the money they did have, and they were responsible for paying the bills they owed. so now my mother, having set aside nothing for this day, has more money to spend as she wishes than she has ever had in her life (her words, not mine).

i think you're right, livin, about the commercialism. i read once where a person should have a minimum of a million dollars set aside for retirement. why? so one can engage in a lifestyle one never dreamed of having while working? do we have to travel after we retire? do we have to have an apartment overlooking a golf course? do we have to live a luxurious lifestyle after we're done with the 9-5 m-f schedule? the commercials say we do. i beg to differ.

my mom has a healthy income now because of the hard work she and my dad did their whole lives. is her income dependant on the government? yes. will she be in trouble if the government goes broke (so to speak) and cannot pay her anything anymore? no. her Daddy owns the cattle on a thousand hills! He will provide for her then, just like He has always provided for her in the past. she may not be able to go to florida this december like she wants to. but i know she'll be okay with that. she'd love to travel--extensively. but i know she would rather be used of God than to be able to set foot outside the town she's living in. her priorities are straight. they always have been. to me, we should be more concerned with that than we are concerned about how much money we have at retirement.

if there's something you can do to fix the financial crisis going on right now, by all means, be concerned. if not, leave it to God and leave the concern to those who can do something. i may not have developed a lot of my mother's traits  , but i am seeing the example of what a life of putting God before all else can do for a person when that person can no longer do for themselves!

:sneaking:

AMEN - Well said :emot-hug:

what happened in 1929? what did the government do then? and how long did it take for the country to recoup?

.....but it did.

There is a huge difference between now and 1929. More than half of the nations banks failed and the market took a much larger percentage hit than it did now.

You're right brother UNLESS the current situation goes uncorrected...

The current situation is more in line with the late 80's when the Savings & Loan crisis hit (and the effects of that crisis lasted 5 years). Regardless, the comparison to the Great Depression was to provide a historical perspective of when it is prudent for the Federal Government to step in and bring balance back into the economy and financial sectors. We better hope that Congress gets its act together and passes some legislation this week.

Charitow, there is a good article about Roosevelt's New Deal found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Deal if you're interested in a quick overview of what we're talking about. The statistic that sticks out in my mind is how unemployment dropped from 25.2% to 13.8% in Roosevelt's first year in office...and all because he stepped in and created jobs through the Federal Emergency Relief Administration...a federal program.

Bless you and your mother. I agree with you in essence...there is NO need to worry and God is in control. Amen.

But let me give you a scenerio. I run a business with 138 families in my care. Last year, there were 168 families...now only 138 families. Soon I will have to reduce further. We can ALL do something. We can pray. We can voice our opinions to our leaders. We can vote. We can TRUST in God. We can persevere. We can do ALL those things and we should not feel that by doing one, we negate the other.

Actually...I covet ALL of your prayers for the 138 families that work in my plant. I covet your prayers that God grant me wisdom.

I think you are right. Choices are becoming very limited for us all.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
