If a super volcano happened, does anyone have any idea what states would be affected? I'm sure Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, North and South Dakota, but what about a chain reaction in California? Could that happen? I imagine parts of Canada would be affected. Just curious.

If you click on the link I posted above and flip forward a few pages, you'll see the previously affected areas.

As for a chain reaction? I do not believe so. At least I have never heard of an eruption of one volcano triggering an eruption in another area.

There was at least one time when there was a chain reaction.

I just watched a show about this area, and the possibility of an eruption, a few days ago on the History Channel. It was the opinion of the scientist interviewed that the resulting smoke and ash would spread around the world and cause a volcanic winter. This could cause mass extinctions, according to him. I wish I could remember the guy's name....

That should rescue us all from Global Warming. I KNEW everything would be OK!

I can say that from the studies at the Brookings Institute in the sixties, the government will not tell us ahead of time even though they might know that something is up...... to declare an immanent danger would cause people to have to leave about 20 states or so to get to safety.

Well, they didn't have the internet in the 60's, so the "no warning" would have been feasible then. I doubt "the secret" would be kept too secret these days. There are way too many individuals monitoring Yellowstone via regular reporting sites. Even if this recent seismic activity didn't make the news, anyone checking the sites would have seen this. If things looked more serious, I'm sure message boards, blogs, e-mails, and all that would spread the word rather quickly.

As for evacuation - how in the world could all those people be evacuated?

I was looking at an interactive website (Discovery channel) on the volcano, and it showed the ash distribution of the past two major eruptions. It pretty much covered the entire Western half of the US ( the eastern edge being Texas, Oklahoma, and the states north of them).

Honestly, if the government had substantial reason to believe the volcano was gonna blow - what could they do?

Well, they could certainly tell us..... that way we could go crazy for a day or two trying to evaquate 15 to 20 states and move all those people to ...... "??????" where..... and for how long.....

And what if it didn't really happen after the warning........ HELLO court system....

It might make for an interesting summer though....

I might add though that the USGS charts are really interesting..... something is definately going on under the North end of Yellowstone lake.

I took a random sample of the quake centers from the University of Utah's web site and plotted them on Google Earth to see where they lie.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c311/oth...hquakesZoom.jpg

Not that this is any dire thing, I just thought it'd be nice to see where they are located.

It's my understanding that the floor of the lake has been rising in that area for several years.

The only thing that really bothers me about the super eruption is that we really don't know what will happen just prior to the eruption. It is my understanding that the animals seem to know and if we want to be ready we need to watch the animals..... when they all go a little crazy it's time to run.

I looked at the map they(USGS) provide a few days ago. It looked to me as if all the activity was located beneath a body of water and not near any of the fault lines indicated on the map.

Don't think ya need to stock up on water just yet...but ya never know.

:) it's likely you're right BUT dear hunterpoet. please be stocked up on water & food & first aid equipment for ANY eventuality. we should all be prepared with emergency supplies anyway. just as you said, ya never know - imminent threat is always present.

Never fear brother, the Hunter is ready...got the 3B's...bandaids, bullets and beans. Folks round here think I'm silly for feeding them squirrels.

Seriously though. I'm ready.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
