I read an interesting post that stateed that men and women were made in GOD's image. I wonder if someone wouldn't mind a slightly controversial question.

Is that really scriptural?

According to all I have read in the Bible, man was made in the image of GOD and woman was made from/in the image of man. Now, this might mean that woman is made in the image of GOD by virtue of being made inthe image of something made in the image of GOD, but is it really the same? After all, men and women do not look alike and the Bible is very clear about GOD being of a male persuation and HIS personification was also in the same male image.

So, is there scripture that states that women are made in the image of GOD?

I know that this can bring out some angry remarks. Try to curb that. Just wondering if there is scripture to back up a statement.

(O, I get the whole "In JESUS there is no male of female..." which is not an answer to this question)

Thanks

Peace

Adam was created, while Eve was built. This is a picture of Christ and the church. Since the church is the reality of the Shulamite in Song of Songs, the church bears the image and likeness of Christ: She is the female counterpart of her husband. She is the same in life and in nature.

...That probably didn't do much to answer your question either.

I believe that God made man in His image (in other words, Adam looked roughly like the Lord) and then later made woman in His image as well (taking care to differentiate between the two in order to create attraction between them.) I don't think the Bible specifically says that though.

We all know the beginning of Genesis. God declares Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. But if you think about it, What is God's image? Do we look like God? God is spirit.

To be made in God's image, I believe, is Him making us as He is. Adam before the fall, was righteous, he named all things and had dominion. He had feelings. We too have feelings. We love, get angry, become saddened, frustrated, etc. God is the same in this fashion. He loves, gets angry (righteous anger), jealous, saddened, etc. I believe when God designed us, He designed us with His emotions. Because He loves so deeply, He gave us these same traits in order for us to love Him back. Yes, He could have created robots, but that's not how He is...He wants us to come to Him because we Love Him...not because we are forced to.

Moving forward though, Woman are designed in the same way. They have the same emotions. I feel that woman have stronger passions than us men do. Look at a mother and her child. A father is quick to punish, where many times a mother is quick to bring the child in and forgive. In the bible we know that we are to marry one man/woman...the bible goes further to elaborate that when the two come together they are no longer two, but one. I feel this is because when a man and woman marry, they complete each other. They are made whole. The weaknesses that men possess, woman fill that gap, and vise versa. Likewise, When we come together with God, we are made whole.

A completeness can also be seen in the trinity. A father, son, and Holy Spirit. Three which are one. Likewise, when a man, woman are together and focus on God...we see three made as one...a completeness...a whole. This is why when men and women try to pursue life without God, there is always that void...they are not complete.

Moving further, sorry to be so winded, But I feel it's also important to note how God took Eve from the side of Adam. God created Adam from the dust. He could have likewise created Eve in the same way. He did this for a purpose. Taking a rib from Adam was to point out that without a woman, man is incomplete. Likewise, being that a woman comes from the side, shows a womans place with a man...not from the foot, because that would mean a man rules OVER a woman, and if from the top portion, a woman rules over a man. He was showing in a very humble and beautiful design, that we are equal. side by side, but never above God.

With love in Christ

I don't see this as a question if man or women are complete without the other, but from the point of authority. Man is the head of the woman as Christ is the head of man. God is the authority of all, and in His image, He passed the authority of His creation to man before the fall. I have to include that this is not all that "in His image" means. As stated, He is Spirit, as we are spirit. When this body ceases to function and dies, our spirit will live on.

The question was actually about the "image" of God. Yes, very true, man is the head of the woman in being they are to lead in pure love. We, as men, should love them and care for them just as Christ cared for His church. This does show a completeness though. If we are to treat women as Christ treated us...we see love, sacrifice, and forgiveness. We also know that without Christ, the church does not exist...it is incomplete.

I agree on the further image topic, but if you think about it...that is where our emotions come from. Our physical bodies are nothing more than a shell. It's our spirit that loves, angers, etc. This is how we can be made new in Christ. He gives us His spirit that teaches us and convicts us.

Gen. 1: 27

So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

Depends on how you read things, keeping Hebrew parallelism in mind, it sounds like "male and female" are both considered "man."

Not if "man" actually means "human."

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
