Second Temple 'Mikveh' Uncovered

JERUSALEM, Israel - Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) archaeologists uncovered a 2,000-year-old mikveh (ritual bath) in the ongoing excavation of the Western Wall tunnels.

"[The mikveh] is one of the most magnificent structures from the Second Temple period ever to be uncovered," an IAA press release stated on Wednesday.

Archaeologists excavating one of three halls accessed from inside the Western Wall Tunnel uncovered the structure about 65 feet from the Kotel (Western Wall).

I can't wait till they find the ashes of the Red Heiffer.....

Archaeology fascinates me; this bath was operational when Jesus himself visited Jerusalem. There are so many fantastic finds being made in Israel, even though it's such a small country.

I'm constantly worried about important finds being detroyed by evil doers. who wish to erase evidence.

Actually, I have read that "the original ashes" of the red heifer are not needed to get the third temple up and running because in biblical times, a perfect red heifer was one that didn't have any broken bones or deformities, etc. that were easily seen and it didn't matter at all if it had a few different colored hairs. I have also read that certain people within the Temple Mount Faithful from the Temple Institute in Israel know where the original ashes are and it is being kept secret.

However, I believe as Christians we should see absolutely no significance in red heifers or ashes. The New Testament tells us that we already have the perfect sacrifice in Jesus Christ. Hebrews 9:12 says, "not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption." No heifer could ever do that.
