I am blessed to learn of your profession. I have an extreme interest in this field. I thought for the longest time that I wanted to work in criminal justice but now I'm leaning more towards helping others like you do. My step mom was a crisis counselor for years as well, even wrote some books, was a speech therapist, etc. I want to get a degree in Psychology. Have any suggestions? My step mom says one of her biggest battles in that field is having to separate psychology from religion or something along those lines. I may have misunderstood her.

I do this only in a volunteer capacity now. It is a wonderful field and there is a great need for good 'listeners'. I say that because one of the best instructors I ever had said that is all we can hope to be - good listeners who hear not only the words, but what is really being said. It is a very stressful line of work and as I said, I no longer do it as a career. I have the highest respect for those who are dedicated to this work.

Said it before, and I will say it again. You are a wonderful, strong woman of God. Forget the sandpaper, and that from an old pot scourer like me  Wise words, and words we should all take heed of.

More than once those who seem to rub us raw emotionally have sent me running to the Fathers arms. I have learned that He sometimes uses them to not only help us to learn to obey His command to love, but to draw us closer to Him. More than once I have also cried out something like, "Lord, I have had a rough day, please close the mouth of the lion for awhile."

I am sure I, too, have gotten under someones skin more than once. Glad he teaches us love is patient, love is kind... :-)

Believer I love reading what you write. All the time. This is so great. And that later example of sandpaper on wood makes it even more clear.

Have you ever read the book "Hind's Feet on High Places"? The writing style was not really to my liking but because the story was engaging I went right through it. The protagonist's name was called "Much Afriad" and the Lord gave her two helpers to get to his Kigdom on "High Places". Her compainons which were given by the Lord were "Sorrow" and "Suffering". It was a really interesting story and I learned a lot from it. It carries much similar lessons to what you shared with us here..

Title of the book is based on this verse:

Habakkuk 3:19

19The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

"Hind's Feet on High Places" is one of my favorite books as the more I read the more I wanted to read. It is an excellent allegory to read.

Excuse, me I don't want to derail the thread

I think we all have within us the nature to be abrasive and an irritant - but we have to overcome those negative feelings. I am praying for a brother now who is affected by someone so abrasive and combative towards him and others. I pray that this person realizes that the very nature of their personality shows an ugliness that is not pleasing to God - no matter how much scripture is quoted. I pray that for today we all walk in the shadow of Jesus and let His Peace be what we strive to have in our lives and our dealings with others. Let us not be divisive but embrace others and show them how He loves us all. Shine the light that the Lord has given all of us... In Jesus' Name. Amen.

It's my opinion, from observing many unhappy people, that sometimes they are abrasive and hateful in an attempt to control their world. They feel unloved and uncared for so they throw up roadblocks to avoid being rejected outright. Just call me Glory Freud. :)

You are absolutely correct - people who are unhappy feel that they have little or no control over the circumstances in their lives - they can be some of the most toxic individuals - It's quite sad isn't it? IMO - happiness is a conscious choice we each make every morning - we can choose to be positive and smile and be happy and thankful for our blessings or we can choose to be irritable, self-involved and make other people as miserable as we are.... not much of a choice in my book ... I work with an 89 year young volunteer every week - her hands almost make me cringe in pain they are so twisted with arthritis - yet, she never complains. If it's raining, she is praising God for the water. She is happy and cheerful and a joy to be around - few people know that she has no family left - her only son died many years ago and she is 'alone' - but yet she's always on the go and surrounded by people in our community and involved in so many things that she's rarely home alone. She is a blessing and if I am so fortunate to be blessed with a 1/4 of her energy and her ability to find the good in all things - I will be happy.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
