Judge: Natl Day Of Prayer Unconstitutional

April 15, 2010 - 4:49 PM | by: Mike Levine

The National Day of Prayer, honored in the United States for more than a half-century, is unconstitutional, a federal judge in Wisconsin has ruled.

In a 66-page opinion issued Thursday, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb said the holiday violates the "establishment clause" of the First Amendment, which creates a separation of church and state.

"I understand that many may disagree with that conclusion and some may even view it as a criticism of prayer or those who pray," Crabb said in her opinion. "That is unfortunate. A determination that the government may not endorse a religious message is not a determination that the message itself is harmful, unimportant or undeserving of dissemination."

The opinion comes in a case filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Wisconsin-based group of self-described "atheists" and "agnostics."

Crabb said her ruling is based on "relevant case law," and it does not prevent religious groups from organizing prayer services or prevent the President from discussing his views on prayer.

"The only issue decided in this case is that the federal government may not endorse prayer in a statute," Crabb said.

The Justice Department would not say whether it expects to appeal Crabb's ruling.

I really don't think these folks have ever actually read the Constitution or any of our founding documents for that matter.

What's going to follow, if we don't turn this tide, is Christian persecution. One can see it coming.

The Good news is that the Church is never stronger than when she's under persecution. Revival is coming.

I agree. The establishment cause is to protect the church FROM the state. It's being used to attempt to separate people from God.

I agree... ... and that is something that will be disputed nobody likes to hear that our nations forefathers were devoted christian men. They may have been Pentecostals, or Catholic, or I draw a blank for the name of the church of England... the point is they were devoted men.

Right. The National Day of Prayer doesn't advocate just Christian prayer. It's for ALL religions, even pagan ones. I believe it's constitutional as long as the government doesn't promote or advocate a specific religion or faith. This judge is constitutionally challenged.

It appears to me that the meaning of the constitution has not changed, but how one reads it. When a Godly person reads it, they see the forefathers meaning. When the ungodly reads it, they see it in a different light. In today's world, the ungodly outnumber the Godly largely. It is not the constitution that has changed, but how one interprets it, through the eyes of the ungodly.

Alan. :whistling:

Exactly, and as the Nation becomes more and more ungodly and immoral we will turn more and more from the path of Righteousness, sadly.

Here's a quote from my Patriots Bible;

................Beware lest you be consumed by one another

Galatians 5:15

A Constitution for Moral People

John Adams (1735-1826) is one of Americas Founding Fathers and served as the second President of the United States. In an October 1798 letter to the Militia of Massachusetts, he stated:

We have no Government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whole goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the Government of any other.

Peace,

Dave

Hello,

I belive this is one thread I definately would want to reply to. Although I have had some very radical beliefs of the government of our country...I've mellowed quite a bit lately. As far as this national day of prayer...I don't really have anything to say about that, whether this country has a day designated for prayer(for all people of many different beliefs), I do want to post something that came to mind as I was reading this thread.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5: 16 - 22

I was remembering a friend who shared with me specifically about.."pray continually," in that I should have an attitude of prayer with me, at a moment's notice, so to speak...taken literally would be a very difficult task...just my thoughts on this.

God bless,

Randal

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
