Hgirl, I shared with you...

but will ask those that has answered so professionally...

If anyone remembers I post the same question last year...with the heat...making a noise...then shutting down.

The guy that checked mine out said....hard drive.... going out....do you feel he gave a correct evaluation?

I never got around to having it done....if you remember someone gifted me with a new HP. I plan to get it fix....just would like your input.

Hard drive failure shouldn't cause random shutdowns, but lead to corrupted files and boot failure. Hard drive failures usually go down south pretty quick. You wouldn't be able to boot into your computer soon.

Thanks

2J - I'm having to read your type with the help of a magnifying galss.... :sherlock:

HGirl,

Your best bet is to take it in and have it looked at. Find some place that is willing to give you a free estimate and let them blow out the computer. Around here, they blow out computers as a free service. Save your pennies and get the job done professionally.

Well.. Wikipedia and majority of computer stores would disagree with you. Compress air has no more moisture than regular air you breathe if not less.

If you blow air further into the system you aren't blowing it right. Have you ever cleaned your own computer before? Not everyone have money to drop on a $200-300 vacuum.

I have used compress air to clean dust from my computer motherboard it is very effective. How else would you clean it?

i have used canned air since 90's. Still use it til today and never had a problem so I agree with you udx.

HGirl, if you aren't comfortable opening your computer then don't do it. But at least you have an idea what your problem may be.

If a technician comes back and tells you that you need it cleaned or that a CPU fan is out then he may be honest. But i suspect that it's a fan

because something is hitting the fan blade. This causes the sound. Could be dirt, could be wires, etc.

They can clean all this for you. A fan can cost about $15.00 (U.S.) plus labor.

That's the first answer that makes sense to me

Also, never buy a beige computer, I have found the black and sliver ones work best....

As you can see, I know a lot about computers!

Have you tried using your computer in the refrigerator when it overheats?

As for the canned air discussion, surely spraying moisture on it will cool it down

Or to save money, place lips against on of those little slot things on the side (I have yet to figure out what they are for), and blow really hard?

That round coffee holder thing that pops out when you press the button? Maybe your coffee is too hot? Try a soda instead?

Glad to be of help. call me for advice anytime

Even if you cleaned the fan's well, you may have all the small holes in your computer frame stopped up. Behind the front pannel on most computers the frame and both the sides and back behind the exhaust fan there are holes in the pannels and frame to pull air in one end and blow it out the other. I've seen these get stopped up and cause all kinds of overheating problems.

That would put your fans in high speed and make them sound different also.

You should have air coming out of the back of the computer from inside the power supply, that is the big box usually at the top and rear of most computers. The fan may be running but make sure the holes are all open and that air is moving

As for the moisture in canned air, there is none inside it; however it is very cold and it will cause moisture to condense out of the air onto things. If you flip the can upside down and spray the liquid out of the can, it will actually freeze the moisture out of the air onto whatever you're spraying. I would not use canned air on anything that was plugged in...... especially if you have pets in the house. Cat hair is especially conductive and blowing cat hair around a computer while it's turned on will almost always do damage.

Never ever ever use a regular vacuum cleaner on a computer.

BTw, I've been working on computer equipment since 1972

Also, I'm assuming that since you said you took the side off that you're not talking about a laptop..... if you are then it's a whole different ball game.

sometimes you can get real deals on old computers. A work friend that ran one of our printers had relatives give him an "old" computer that was not working and he wanted me to help him get it ruining. When I looked it over I found it was made by Sun Microsystems and that meant it had to run on unix, but the interesting thing was that it had seven video inputs and 16 stereo audio inputs. After getting a rather expensive power supply and replacing it we discovered that he had inherited basically a small television video/audio switching system including the working software. It had 4 Sun processors that cost us at Xerox about $6,000 a piece. I'm guessing back in the mid 90's this thing would have run at least a hundred thousand dollars.

I lusted after it for a long time. He finally sold it to a company but he never told me what he got for it. They were nice folks so I hope it was a bunch.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
