I agree with what you said Gary. That's how it's supposed to be. We shouldn't be placing heavy burdens on each other, but this is exactly what most people do. But we're not supposed to. So maybe you're starting to see one reason I keep saying that what we do matters.

Jesus said His yoke was light. We're supposed to be friends of Jesus. When we place heavy burdens on each other don't we prove we are not friends of God and Jesus? How then do we still think we're saved? Do you see what I mean? And this is just 1 issue, but a very good one. Maybe one of the most important issues, because it's how we treat each other.

Being friends with God isn't easy. According to Gods word a friend is someone who obeys his commands. Our friends are they who keep our commands. A friend never commands someone to do something they would not do themselves. Abraham was called the friend of God. Jesus called his disciples friends.

Today I explained this same thing to my wife using the scriptures. According to the world you can be contrary to people and still be friends. According to the word of God you cannot. Let God be true and every man a liar as it is written. I simply want to be called the friend of God and therefore a friend to all of his friends as well.

In Jesus Name,

Gary

Hey OneLight,

No, I don't believe the soul dies with the body. Only God can destroy the soul.

I hope you all realize that I'm not a scoffer, and I'm not saying I definitely know these things for a fact. I'm very serious here. I've had to stay away from churches for the reasons I have said else where, and even more I have yet to say. But I didn't stay away from God nor His word. In fact, being so alone as I am, makes me think and talk to God a great deal. But being so alone also causes me to get lost in my own head. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean I'm wrong, nor right. I just hope you all know I'm serious.

Gary, I just read Mark 9. I assume you mean the quote from Isaiah that says:

"the worms that eat them do not die,

and the fire is not quenched" ?

That is a troubling scripture, I admit. Possibly that refers to the 1st death? Or maybe it means the worms (whatever they are) that destroy the wicked souls, it's the worms that don't die, and the fires never go out? Even so, I think that verse is symbolic.

I didn't come to this conclusion that our souls are mortal easily. It took well over a decade. There was much wrestling with it in my mind. And I hate coming to conclusions that separate me from other Christians. But I must be true to God.

Whether or not the soul is mortal or not, doesn't change what we need to do to gain eternal life. It's just a detail of understanding, and some people need to know these things. I think I may have gotten past that. So I'm not sure why I'm even saying all this.

I have a related question, but I think I should make it into a separate thread. It may cause quite a commotion.

So I still don't see scriptural proof that our souls are immortal. Rather I see that they will die, unless Jesus gives them the gift of eternal life. And I don't think Jesus gives this gift as easily as most Christians think He does. But 1 step at a time.

When people, saved and unsaved, stand before God to give accountability for their pasts, their soul must be with them or they could never give an answer, nor know what is being said about their past..

Fez, no I'm not trying to pick a fight, but so far every time I said the soul is mortal everyone has disagreed with me. That's all.

Gary, I think you're agreeing with me. When you said immoral above, I think is was a typo and you meant immortal, yes?

The way I understand it, satan and his fallen angels will exist forever in hell. After all, it was created for them, not us. But if a totally unjust human soul is tossed into hell fire it will be destroyed. Never to exist again. Only the souls that Jesus grants eternal life to will become immortal. And at that time we will also be given immortal bodies. Possibly the same kind Jesus has right now.

So are you agreeing with me?

Mathew 25:31-41

31"When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32"All the Nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.33"And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.34"Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35"for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me dring; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 "I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me.' 37 "Then the righteous will answer Him saying, "Lord when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 "When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 "Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You? 40 "And the King will answer and say to them "Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren you did it to Me." (Sorry to interupt my point in all of this but I must say verse 40 surely spoke to me...boy so much has came to understanding, blessed are you Father ! ) 41 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, "Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:"

This is why I think those who go to hell will sufer the same (maybe not the same) but will suffer in hell eternally with Satan. (compare 41 to revelation 20:10, and 14:11 )

Revelation 20:10 "The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire, and brimestone where the beast and the false prophet are. And tey will be tormented day and night forever and ever."

also

Revelation 14:11 "And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever: and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

From my understanding, those whose names were not written in the book of life will perish into torment with satan.

All good points guys. I could be wrong. Right now I'm too tired to think. At least you're all thinking. Remember, whether the soul is immortal or not, it doesn't change anything about how we ought to live.

That's a good game plan, Jake. I wish you well in doing it. I do mean that. I hope you always have the faith you have now. I'm just thinking of how I once accepted all I was taught as a teen too. Later in life I came to doubt it all, and then coming back was a long difficult journey. I suppose it was worth it, because now I no longer doubt what I believe. I had to give up on thinking I could ever understand all the details many folks are still trying to figure out. I came to know in my heart and soul, that Jesus died on Earth to reconcile us to God, and that my relationship with God was the most important thing for me. Since God wants us to obey Him and live by His ways, I realized that I had to do what God said. I had to put my behavior where my mouth was, to paraphrase an old saying. The Bible says "all things work together for the good for those who love God". I was raised Catholic, and the Catholics stress behavior just as much as faith and believing. So all I had to do was go back to what I was taught as a kid, only now I really and try to do it. Now I take it seriously. Sins are bad for us in so many ways I could write a small booklet on it. I am pleasantly amazed at how as the years go on, God keeps giving me more and more understanding of things about Him. Sometimes I feel like I can preach sermons. I think I even did when talking to a Christian gf I once had. I'd start talking about a certain scripture, and I'd say things I didn't know that I knew. I still tend to think the soul is mortal and will die unless Jesus saves it by giving it eternal life. But the fact is whether or not this is true, doesn't change one thing concerning how we get eternal life. This is why I posed the question. I wanted all who have an ear to hear to think about this.

It takes more than just believing you're saved. It takes more than saying some words. It takes obeying God. And doing that takes a lifetime. But we all must start some where. I started with wiping out my use of God's name in vain. I was very dismayed to read some Christians think this is okay, and that cussing is too. I still cuss at times, but I quit using God's name in vain a long time ago. It was a little thing to do, but a big thing to God. He made it one of His famous 10 Commandments. So I'm not perfect nor do I expect anyone else to be perfect. Just pick a sin you think you can quit, and start working on it today. That's how we do it. One thing at a time.

Ever since I came to Worthy I've had a burning desire to say this and I finally am. I kept telling God, but no one wants to hear this. He didn't answer except to keep laying it on my heart to tell all willing to hear, that we must be doers of His Word. It's nothing new. God told it to the first people He ever made, and people have been not obeying ever since. But some of us feel it deep down in our hearts and souls that it's true. We have to obey Him. What's more, the more knowledge and awareness of Him He gives us, the more He expects from us. The Bible says that too. So now I finally said all this and the burning desire is almost gone.

As you go through life Jake, whenever things get tough (and they will) remember this game plan you told me here this day. Remember the faith, belief, trust, and love you have for God right now. And that will serve you well.

God Bless you Jake, and everyone who reads this.

(Btw, what do you mean by Facebook is following you? I want to know so maybe I can prevent it from bugging me too. LOL)

When the truth of the Word of God becomes a reality in a believer's life, it is always fresh and new and the desire to share is part of

the truth because when God is real to you, it is hard to believe He cannot be just as real to others

There are scriptures that line up with yr thought above

And I am still in disagreement with you re the soul, but I don't think it an issue to argue over

I'm curious about fb too?

Apparently all of you think the soul is immortal and will live forever? I don't, and I have also read the Bible, and much of it more than once. I think exactly what the soul and spirit are, is not well defined in the Bible. This is unfortunate. I've heard many explanations. I came to agree that the soul is what we might call the personality. It's who I am. It's me, John and it's learned what I know. The spirit is the raw life force within me. The spirit is the spark of God. The spirit in me makes this body alive, and it has the soul of John attached to it. The spirit can never die. If my soul dies the spirit returns to God, from whence it came. I know Jesus once told the people to not fear men who can only kill the body, but to fear Him who can destroy the body and soul. I think Jesus meant God the Father. That's one place I get the idea the soul is mortal. Jesus also talked about giving the gift of eternal life. Jesus talked about what we need to do to gain that eternal life. In the 7 letters to the 7 churches in Revelation, He made it clear it's Him Jesus who gives the gift of eternal life, and He said He gives it to those of us who overcome. So all this is where I come to the conclusions that the soul is mortal, and will be destroyed, unless we receive the gift of eternal life from Our Lord. I think Jesus said our souls will be destroyed in hell's fire. Not sure of that. Either way, unless Jesus finds us worthy of eternal life, any other alternative, is extremely undesirable.

So this is how I came to my conclusion. Since you all seem to disagree with me, tell me how you came to your conclusions?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
