so i have a 10 month old baby girl. the past couple of months she's been crying a lot at night and waking up in a cold sweat. i didn't know if it was her teeth bugging her or a cold coming on - i didn't put much thought into it, but it troubled my husband a little bit. on one particular night, our daughter was waking and crying nearly every hour, all night long.

in the morning, my husband said he had a hunch and to trust him on this one. he sprinkled sea salt on the inside of her window sill and all around her crib on the floor. he thought that someone or something was bothering her.

that night, for the first night in at least a couple of months, our daughter slept hard and long! she woke only one time for a quick feeding and was back to bed. i thought it might be a fluke thing so we waited to see what would happen the next night. again, the next night she slept soooo soundly! not one little peep aside from the one feeding. she also slept in and when she did wake up, it wasn't from crying hysterically and she wasn't sweating anymore. she woke up calmly and babbling quietly.

my husband suffered as a child with "the dark side" bugging him, tormenting him as he slept and he did not have any help. it even made him turn to the dark side as a young person until Christ saved him later in life.

this sprinkling of salt, in my opinion just serves as a protective barrier against forces we cannot see. it's like chicken soup when you have a cold. i am thankful that my husband thought to do this and that it worked for our daughter. we are all sleeping peacefully now. she did not have to suffer long with whatever or whoever was bothering her.

has anyone ever done this? what do you think of this? i would not be surprised to have replies from people on both sides of the fence.

That is an extremely complex subject.. I have read of this in many different religions and most of them one would not want to be part of if they are a believer and trust in Christ.

I do know that it seems to work for some time, but not in all cases and I don't know why. If you are having demonic visits in your house, there is a reason. If your husband had those kinds of problems, you may have some multi generational problem and that's not easy to deal with. I personally don't think it will rid them from your life, though it might get you some sleep. If it's really demons, you need to deal with it and not play around with the salt.... it's like a gun and sooner or later you'll run out of bullets and they are very patient. .

It's my understanding that Holy Water contains salt, but that is the only thing I remember seeing about salt that would have anything to do with something pertaining to Christ.

Question that may sound silly but it's important. Do either you or your husband have time periods in your lives that you simply don't remember?

sounds like a form of witch craft to me. is there any Biblical precedent for using salt for protection? if there is, i don't recall ever reading it before.

you need to be very careful of the "beautiful side of evil". satan's biggest weapon is to use what appears to be good as a way of dragging us right back into that dark side your husband was trapped in as a child.

o.k...I heard this years ago when I was younger.

Here in the south if you find some salt near your door or near or inside your house.

There is someone trying to cast a spell on you.

Witches do use salt for that purpose.

Please I am not saying your husband is a witch. It did work for you all. Thats a good thing.

Christians use anointed oil, (oil payed over). ... and do a house cleaning once in a while...just in case.

You can get the details on it from a pastor, or another christian that knows of this. They can help you.

While this appears to be working, it's only a fluke. Very thin line to be walking to be honest. While your intentions are good, and you would do anything to comfort your child, you need to rely on the Lord.

It is God whom treads down our enemies, man is of no help to us. (Psalm 60:11) For we wrestle against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil. (Ephesians 6:12), What good can man do? For it is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. (Psalm 118:8) Step forth in Faith and pray to the Lord, unto you He will provide sovereignty and protection, peace and truth. Let the past be the Past and allow the Lord to reign. The moment your husband gave his life to the Lord (and I have no doubt he did such thing) he gave up all those things. As tricky as the sly devil can be, he needs to leave that behind him and remain in the Grace of God, our Rock, our Protector. Put on the whole armor of God!

Psalm 91:1-16

1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.2I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.3Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.4He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.5Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.7A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.14Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Why would a demon run from salt?

Grace to you,

I'm not sure why your husband would revert to his days in the dark side to protect from the dark side. A kingdom divided will not stand and satan will not work to throw out satan. Whatever this was is likely playing games with you. I wouldn't mess with it like that.

Why not merely plead the precious and powerful Blood of our Lord and Savior and cast out whatever was bothering the child?

Afterall, every knee must bow and every tongue must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. He has put to shame the principalities and spiritual powers that rule in dark and high places. He has defeated them and reigns over them.

Eph 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Col 2:15

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Php 2:9

Therefore God also has highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

Php 2:10

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Php 2:11

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

You obviously don't need salt and I don't see anywhere in scripture where the practice your husband employed has any authority or power over demonic forces.

Again, I would ask why your husband felt it neccesary to revert to a past dark practice that he should have left behind?

The mere mention of the name of Jesus from a believer should do the job.

Peace,

Dave

I agree with the others who have questioned this "salt as protection."

Where in the Bible are we instructed to do this? This seems like a form of witchcraft.

I pray God continues to grow and teach you about His love. Jesus is the answer.

God bless,

GE

I hadn’t heard of this till the question was posted, so did some looking into it. The superstitious and those into palm reading etc. . . use salt to keep evil away. The catholic church also believes in using salt to exorcise  demons and keep thieves and other evil away They use several scriptures to explain this, but these two scriptures appear to be the main reasons for the ritual. 2 kings 2:19 and another is on Matthew 5: 13. the salt is sprinkled around bedrooms and doors/windows.

I Wonder Wherever Did That Come From, lol

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Matthew 5:13

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
