I don't think one gets brownie points for throwing out their tv. or a halo or stars. I guess though if you are tempted to watch what personally hurts you and you just cannot say no, well then do what you must do....like the chocoholic who cannot keep chocolate in the house because they will eat till it's all gone!

I guess the same can be said about computers so I don't know what the fuss is all about. Actually, you can get into a whole lot more trouble on the computer yet everyone contributing to this thread has one of those.....hmmm.............

Its not so much about throwing out the TV or browie points for me. Its about a couple of things, really.

One is that I can't afford to buy one of the new TV's after they did that change to the digital signals and all of that.

The second reason is that I had no desire to watch TV other than the local news and weather for at least 6 months before I moved to the unfurnished apartment I'm in now. I lost the desire to watch the stuff on the networks. I'll give credit for that to Jesus, since apart from Him I'm normally a TV junkie and spent way too much time watching the box when I could have been doing other things with my time. I don't really have time for TV between work and the other things the Lord has me doing, so I don't miss TV that much.

If I do miss something or want to see a movie there's always Hulu, Netflix, & Amazon for streaming a show or movie on the computer. :) I suppose you could make a case for tossing the computer out, but for me the TV was an extra expense I just didn't need or want.

Well I wouldn't toss either out...unless I thought I was being spied on LOL! I don't think there is a case for throwing either out...both have off buttons...perhaps some people can't find that button

I have no problem with watching or not watching...it's the throw out your TV or you are not a Christian crowd that I disagree with :) I don't think anyone here has said that though...but I've heard it

I liked Star Trek, Leave it to Beaver, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, and even a little Brady Bunch, etc. growing up. And more recently Monk. Don't really watch too many shows now.

Since they have come out with digital tv, you have more channel choices, and among them in many areas are channels like Antenna TV and ME TV, that show old shows like "The Brady Bunch." Another alternative is to purchase the series of shows you like on DVD. I have the first 5 seasons of "Andy Griffith," all the episodes that are available of "Green Acres," and the entire "Twilight Zone" series. I know "The Brady Bunch" is available on DVD, as is "The Partridge Family," and many other shows now considered classics. You really aren't stuck with what is on the networks today. There are all kinds of ways to take control of what you watch, and most are reasonably priced. I bought the entire series of "Gilligan's Island" and they were very inexpensive. Go to Amazon, and you will be surprised at what all you can find. One series I bought very cheap, and never saw first run was "Greatest American Hero," which surprisingly isn't a bad show? If you like mysteries, a show that is usually pretty clean, and I enjoy is "Monk." Of course, you can find shows like that one Andy Griffith was in where he played a lawyer, wish I could remember the name, but you can find it at the IMDB.com. They have information on everything entertainment. There are a lot of choices if you look.

I liked the earlier Twilight Zone Episodes. They could really play with your mind sometimes. :mgcheerful:

A more recent show that is really clean and presents good morals (and parenting) as part of the show is 'Reba'. I never watched it when it was on CBS (or was it ABC?) but I have been watching the reruns on cable. I think the series ran from 2001 to 2008. Of course, I'm a BIG Reba McEntire fan anyway. :mgbowtie:

Maybe I should have started a new thread for this. I don't have TV service, and I don't care. But I have many old shows on tape. Last night I found I have some of the Touched By An Angel series. I have always thought that was a great show. And I think the best 2 episodes were the 1st one where a small town church is preparing a play of the Nativity for Christmas. It co stared Randy Davis (or Travis) as a carpenter with a younger brother who is slow. The younger brother's best friend is a little girl who is going to die from an incurable heart ailment. What I liked was the night of the play, Roma had to fill in for the little girl. The rope breaks and she goes into angel mode, all shinny and white and she flies. And up at the top of the church a choir of angels sing, all while the little girl dies, but her spirit and the 2 angels that take her to Heaven can only be seen by the young brother who's slow. It was done so well, I loved it. It may or not be factual, but it makes the viewer think of God. If we had shows like that on today, maybe I'd find a way to get TV service. That was a truly great show. I hope they digitally remaster it and play it again and again.

That was it. Thank you Tinky. It's a real tear jerker. That was my favorite scene in the whole show.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
