In the garden?  I often wonder if there was no physical death prior to the fall, why was there a need for a tree of life?

the need of the tree of life was that death was coming, there was a physical death in that day that they eat of the tree of knowledge, 1000 years as a day and a day as 1000 years in the eyes of God.

Gen 5:5

5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. KJV

That is less than 1000 years as one day!!!

The tree of life, referred to in Genesis is the symbol of God's provision for immorality in the Garden of Eden.Of all the trees that were in the Garden of Eden, two were named for their great importance, but just one - the tree of life- was a blessing to Adam and Eve.The tree of life was provided to be a continuous reminder that immorality was a consequence of obedience. As long as Adam and Eve were obedient and did not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they had access to the tree of life.

Because God knew that Adam would fail the conditions of his immorality,He provided for One who would redeem fallen mankind.Through one man,Adam's sin entered the world, but through another Man,Jesus Christ, redemption through the forgivness of sin is available to all Romans 5:17

There is at this time two groups existed - a family of life and a family of Death(Devil and his angels)

Adam and Eve had a mind that can choose on it own.

To choose to obey God(life) or disobey.

I think they were told not to listen to this Evil being, which Eve called the Serpent(Revelation says Old Serpent)(angel of false light 2Cor.11:14)

Trees in the bible can represent a person Psa.1:3 or a group Romans 11 Jews being the Olive tree - Gentiles wild olive tree.

They had to stay connect to the tree of Life to have life.

why was there a need for a tree of life?

It gets even better. The tree of life also describes the sanctification of the Holy Spirit through streams of earthly comfort, coming from heaven. (Rev 22:2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.) This is good news for the children of God. Blessings, DRS81.  :)

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary http://biblehub.com/revelation/22-2.htm

22:1-5 All streams of earthly comfort are muddy; but these are clear, and refreshing. They give life, and preserve life, to those who drink of them, and thus they will flow for evermore. These point to the quickening and sanctifying influences of the Holy Spirit, as given to sinners through Christ. The Holy Spirit, proceeding from the Father and the Son, applies this salvation to our souls by his new-creating love and power. The trees of life are fed by the pure waters of the river that comes from the throne of God. The presence of God in heaven, is the health and happiness of the saints. This tree was an emblem of Christ, and of all the blessings of his salvation; and the leaves for the healing of the nations, mean that his favour and presence supply all good to the inhabitants of that blessed world. The devil has no power there; he cannot draw the saints from serving God, nor can he disturb them in the service of God. God and the Lamb are here spoken of as one. Service there shall be not only freedom, but honour and dominion. There will be no night; no affliction or dejection, no pause in service or enjoyment: no diversions or pleasures or man's inventing will there be wanted. How different all this from gross and merely human views of heavenly happiness, even those which refer to pleasures of the mind!

We are not told why, but many people offer explanations that are in line with their beliefs, many and varied beliefs.

What do you think the tree of knowledge was about?

The purpose of the Tree of Life was to get God into man.  The fruit of the tree of life was the literal embodiment of God's very eternal life and nature, Just as Jesus Himself was the literal embodiment of God's eternal life and nature.  Therefore, Jesus is actually the tree of life. When we received Him into our spirit we  became partakers of God's life and nature, thus fulfilling God's desire in Genesis.

Having said that how about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Amen

A little bit different. Although I could not say that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was the literal embodiment of Satan, or of evil, the produce of such condemned mankind to the fall, to indwelling sin, to spiritual death, disease, physical decay, etc.

I thought it was ther to give us a choice. God wants a people who choose to love Him and obey Him out of love.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
