I notice Paul says this fairly often, and it always bothers me.  'In the faith and love which are in
Christ Jesus.'  Here is the most recent scripture that I read concerning it, in which the first part has no relevence to my question, tho. So dont answer that.

'Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.'  2 Timothy 13.

So replace the word 'faith' here with sentences or a paragraph, defining the meaning of what he is talking about here.  After thinking about it a while, I came to the conclusion that he is talking about our faith as our christianity here, and all that goes along with it. All that is in it.

I know I did post a while back concerning the word faith, becuase it is a word I struggle with understanding in how the word is used.  It often still bothers me and I have to stop and think about it.

Thanks fellow christians, GB. :)

Faith comes from Jesus (God) as a gift (Ephesians 2:8) as does love (1 John 4:7) For God is love.

God (Jesus) is the source of those things.

Hope that helps!

I would say "trust" would replace faith.

Both faith and love are found in Christ Jesus. Truth and grace are also found in Him. Ephesians 1 also lists the blessings found in Christ. When we are in Christ and Christ is in us, we possess these things.

As Tinky said, saving faith is a gift from God.

Amen Joe, Hebrews 11:1 is a great definition of faith.

Romans 8:23-25, speaks of this kind of hope, which is not seen, and states that we as believers wait patiently for our redemption that is the 2nd Coming of Christ Jesus.

Faith is the Holy Spirit giving us great spiritual eyesight:  (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)  II Corinthians 5:7

To find a great example of faith, the Apostle Paul show Abraham in Romans 4.  This chapter is a great read to understand true faith, especially from verses 16 to 25.  From reading this chapter we see faith is hoping when God makes a promise and all worldly hope is gone, but just sticking to that promise and keeping your hope and confidence and wholeheartedly believing God is far greater than any disability that we face from our flesh, the world, or even the devil.  Just as Abraham did not take thought of his age or Sarah's deadness of womb, but knew that what God had promise He was more than able to do.

So as the following acrostic explains:

Forsaking

All

I

Trust

Him

True faith trust God though Jesus Christ to keep all His precious promises.  Paul says:

31)  What shall we then say to thee things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

32)  He that spared not His Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Romans 8:31-32

True faith holds to the fact that the Father allow the Son to died for us, because both the Father and Son loved us that much, and if they love us so much, what will we not receive from the Father thru the Son.

Hi Pamelasv,

I would say that `faith & love,` refer to our needing to believe the truths of Christ (His character & His purposes) with the right attitude. Similar to `speaking the truth in love.` (Eph. 4: 15) If we just focus on the teachings we can become proud or judgmental, & if we just have a good attitude but do not hold to the truth we will also go astray. However as we study & are led into all the truth by God`s Holy Spirit & are   maturing in Christ`s character, we will then have the right attitude, (heart - love) & the truth, (believing - faith)  Thus the two aspects need to go together.

Christian faith is believing that God will bring to pass all that He said He did, will do, and can do, both negative and positive aspects. God says if we will turn from our wicked ways and seek Him that He will be our God. On the contrary, He says those who fulfill the desires of the flesh will not enter heaven. Both the New and Old Testaments are full of examples demonstrating He will do just as He says He will and what is required of us (complete faith in what He has promised) in order to receive the positive and not the negative promises.

For example, Paul says that sanctification comes from being a slave to righteousness (no longer obeying the lusts of the flesh, not sinning) and that the outcome of this sanctification is eternal life, Romans 6. The Bible

also tells us that sanctification comes through God's grace (the Spirit of Grace) who teaches us to abstain from all wickedness and to live righteously and godly in the present age. Titus 2:11-12 NASB

"For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age."

We are also told that we must pursue this sanctification and that no one will see the Lord without this same sanctification, Hebrews 12:14.

Faith is not simply believing Christ died on the cross for our sins. It is believing:

He came in the flesh.

He was tempted as we are (meaning He was able to sin) so that He can sympathize with our weakness and give help in our time of need. Hebrews 2:14-18, 4:15-16

He didn't sin because He was lead by the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 9:14-15

He sent this same Holy Spirit to lead us so that we may present ourselves as blameless and innocent children of God in this perverse generation. Phillipines 2:14-16

It is by sanctification of the Spirit (being slaves of righteousness) that we will see the Lord and receive eternal life.

God calls us for the purpose of sanctification (absence from all wickedness) and that he who rejects this is not rejecting man's teaching but God who has sent His HS unto us. 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

God has given us ever thing for life and godliness and that through His great and magnificent promises we can partake of His divine nature having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. 2 Peter 1:1-11

We sin, not because of the weakness of the flesh, because of the weakness of our faith in what scripture tells us. For He is able to keep us from stumbling (Jude 24) and we are never tempted beyond what we are able to endure and He always provides a way out of every temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:1-13

We can extinguish every flaming arrow Satan throws at us with our shield of faith because we are aware of his schemes. Ephesians 6:10-16

Just like the children of Israel we will not receive the promises of God if we do not believe. They did not enter the promised land because they were disobedient, not believing God could and would give them victory over their enemies, Hebrews 3:12 - 4:11. Likewise we will not enter the promised land unless we believe God is able to give us victory over our enemy, our sinful nature.

We fail to be obedient in all things because we believe it is impossible to do so, not because it is impossible. Because through God all things are possible, Mark 10:23-27. When we believe this, then and only then we can be victorious and overcome sin in this life.

God chastised Judah because they claimed they could not turn and follow Him completely, that it was hopeless. They claimed they would only continue to follow after the evil desires of their heart. God responded by saying their claim was appalling. Jeremiah 8:5-13.

In a nutshell, faith is believing everything the Bible says and living according to our faith. It is not simply belief in Christ'sent sacrifice for our sins.

The text says "in the faith and love which is in Christ Jesus" Emphasis on the "is," rather than "are" making faith and love the one thing.

In other texts it says..."the faith of Jesus" Rev 14:12. "Of Jesus" could mean "from Jesus" as well, and it could also imply Jesus' own faith which He has towards God the Father.

The initial text could also mean that it is the faith which is in Jesus, or which Jesus has, so that if He lives in us, it is His faith that sustains us.

It is not unlike the text which says "let this mind be in you which was also in Jesus Christ." It seems like genuine spirituality only resides in God/Christ, and that His divine presence through the Holy Spirit is the actual life of the faith we think we have.

This makes the Christian faith distinct from any other, because men believe in this or that, but the Christian has something which men don't have without Christ, the living faith of Jesus through the Spirit.

Christ's faith in us, is stronger than any driven by man, because it gains victory over every obstacle against it.

And if the scriptures say that every man has a measure of faith, it is correct to assume that it is God which has implanted that measure of faith in every human being by His grace, through the benefits of the sacrifice of Christ for the world.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
