I am interested in knowing if the destructive forms (Words of hate, destruction of property) of graffiti that we see here in the United States is Worldwide?  

I am a lover of Street Art and as an artist I have been asked to paint murals, one of the passions in my past.  I see this as expressive and beautiful, but I am sickened by graffiti.

Hi Sue,

 

In Canada there is graffiti and its usually done during the night so it will be difficult to find out who did it...most of it is done by teenagers..

Graffiti goes back to ancient times.   Archeologists have uncovered graffiti dating back to 1st century Rome and much of it is either mocking Christianity, or has some very explicit sexual content.

Graffiti Is A Worldwide Problem

 

Graffiti is anti social

 

Graffiti is inevitably anti-social because in almost every case it causes harm to people in one way or another. The only exceptions to this are true works of art which are painted with consent or exceptionally gain acceptance because of their artistic merit.

 

How many small businesses have suffered the cost of graffiti removal that may be little able to afford because someone has thoughtlessly sprayed slogans on their walls?

 

Political hate slogans cause anxiety for the people who they are aimed at which is their true intention.....

Greece is a relatively poor European country that relies heavily on tourism and its people are destroying it. When visitors stop coming to Greece because of its defaced and ruined temples and income from tourism falls even further, what will the Greeks have to offer? I would say it's found in more than just the U.S.  I've seen it in Mexico and in Europe.  What I see on a daily basis is graffiti painted on railroad cars (I catch a lot of trains on my route to work!) and it's prolific!  Hundreds of rail cars traveling down the tracks and decorated with all kinds of things.
