Actually, it looks like the Nephilim may have been different people altogether, because it says they were there in those days and also afterward.  Saying that in the days the sons of God bore children the the daughters of men, and also afterward, in which it was the Nephi lim were the mighty men of renown, not the offspring of the sons of God.

The Nephilim became mighty men as well as men of renown because they were the offspring of the sons of God. That's what the context shows.

That Scripture (above) refers to what happens in Heaven. Neither saints nor angels marry in Heaven. "The angels who kept not their first estate" went from Heaven (first estate) to earth and had intercourse with human women, since angels can and do take human (male) form. They are often referred to as "men" in Scripture. The evil angels involved have been confined to Tartarus (subterranean prison) because of this violation of their position.

I believe that the sons of God were Angels and they were punished by God in a manner so they could not leave earth except they go before him other than that they could not leave. Now I also believe that they were allowed to keep some powers. They could have taken human form to procreate.  I did not get this belief just from the Bible and many would scoff at that idea.
