What do you think of soaking sessions in the Holy Spirit?  I’ve tried them for a bit and found them to be peaceful, refreshing, and exhilarating.

ethrayn,  it is helpful with/for some people.....    I kind of hesitate to comment for I would not want to do anything that would be against His work.....   However I would tell you to be careful for back in the 70's what you are doing is exactly what I was doing to get in touch with some very dark entities that started out expressing themselves about the same as this...

So I would just remind you that Jesus told us to test the spirits we came in contact with....   The Holy Spirit will have no problem telling you who Jesus is and that he came in the flesh......   and I would hope be proud of us for asking.

Joseph Prince was the only name I recognized from a quick Google search of soaking sessions.  I personally do not care for Joseph Prince.  He's somewhat connected to the "name it, and claim crowd" and Kenneth Copeland.  For that reason alone, I'd be suspect of this method of teaching/relaxing.  Soaking sessions sounds alot like a combination of New Age Meditation and Hypnosis.  Personally as a Christian, I'd stay away.

People who get wealthy off the gospel are not to be trusted.

  • 1 Timothy 6    3If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, 4he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, 5and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. 6But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. 7For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. 8If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. 9But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

  • Titus 1:11
They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach--and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

  • 2 Peter 2:3
In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

If by "soaking sessions" one is meaning "Quietism" there is a great danger in this  - one must tread very carefully here as one can be led into a spiritual passivity that is not of God.

But I'm not sure this is what is meant here.     I did a quick search and saw

Quote

Soaking is a Psalm 23 experience. He makes us to lie down in green pastures and He leads us by still waters. He restores our soul. As part of the restoration process we may find ourselves responding physically or emotionally. We might laugh, cry, or shake as the Holy Spirit works in us.

This is a danger area -  opening oneself spiritual to be controlled bodily.   When one opens oneself up spiritually like this to be controlled, one is opening oneself up to the spiritual realm and that doesn't mean one is opening themselves up to the Holy Spirit and not any other spirit.     The danger here is in believing that demonic spirits cannot take advantage of our opening ourselves up like this and deceiving us.  This is true for much of what passes for "experiences of God" in the Charismatic movement.   The devil wants us to seek such experiences as it gives him opportunity to deceive us and get us to run in circles spiritually.

Within the last decade or two, the evangelical fringe have gotten into many things that seem to me to be not biblical.  "Soaking Sessions" are but one example.  "Holy Laughter" is another.  My wife and I left our home church because they started teaching visualization techniques for enhancing healing.  Authors Constance Cumby and Dave Hunt have written books on how the "New Age Movement" was infiltrating the evangelical church.  Of course, not all evangelical churches, I don't want to paint with too broad of brush.  My advice is to check everything against God's word, including anything I might write.  I'm just a man.

I was adding some of this to my post when you responded.  Yes, I agree.  Having been involved in the Charismatic movement I have seen it from the inside out, and I have to say there was much that happened I now have to question.

I also understand the pull of quietism  - there is a fine line of balance here, for we are to draw close to God in stillness -

Since my wife and I were both involved in the Charismatic Movement in the particular church I mentioned, I agree with you.  Questioning is the proper attitude.

A session where you get "soaked" (many interpretations).

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
