Truth be know my clothes are actually falling apart.  It is my daughter who gets the new clothes because she is growing and needs to go to school. So I end up just going with out and making due with what I have. I have 2 pairs of jeans and both are starting to fall apart. So I told my husband I am going to need to go buy a new pair of jeans soon. I'm just not big on shopping for clothes. I think they cost too much. I end up going to a thrift store and seeing what I can find there. I have one pair of running shoes. One pair of boots. One pair of dress shoes that don't fit right so I don't like to wear them. I see no reason why I need to own a  closet full of shoes. This is just me. How I am.

Bless you, LK, you take me back a few years to when my kids were small.  Moms do what moms have to do:)

Like you MG I"m not big on cloths shopping.  I had to some this last year with the 45 pound weight loss everything was falling off of me.  This summer I"m going to have to go after some new capreese.  That is what I live in , in the summer.  The winter, jeans and I only have two pair of them that fit me.  I don't have to worry about kids, mine have fur, so a good brushing and they are set to go.  But again yes I wear jeans to church, but they are clean, pressed, and I wear nice tops.  That's me country through and through.  I don't do dress up.  But yes I would still stay at my church in spite of a dress code.  I love the church, pastor and praise and worship.

I am the same way myself, which is why I am on a mission to learn to sew right now.  There is a whole movement, I guess you could say, of people out there taking thrift clothes and remaking them into something new.  Some people are so creative.  There are really good blogs I like to read where people show their work refashioning old clothes.

It is my mission once the kids are out of school for the summer to learn to sew and teach my daughter to sew too.  She got her own sewing machine for Christmas and has already picked out her fabric to make throw pillows, which if everything works out okay, will work out to 3 pillows for the price of one.

I think it really feels good to do things myself too, which is part of why I don't like shopping.  It just feels like something is missing when I am buying stuff in stores.  Maybe it is a conviction over where it comes from.  I feel very strongly about labor rights.  Either way, I hate it and don't have a very large wardrobe because of principle and financial reasons.

The 'kids' that are still at home with me have fur too.  You'd make a good Texas girl, Rusty.  We believe jeans go with everything and jalapenos go ON everything!  Oh, in Houston, it's perfectly acceptable for men to wear cowboy boots with a suit and tie. Then there's our peculiar habit of wearing shorts in the winter with a coat yes to church, but that's for another thread. I wouldn't change churches either because of a dress code.  Unless they wanted me to wear gown and tiaras, then I'd be outta there.

Btw, if you lost 45 lbs, you DESERVE to buy new clothes!

so often when a Church adopts worldly standards of behavior & dress the Bible preaching/teaching is also slack. The dress sometimes coincides with the worldly "seeker friendly" message rather then preaching the full message that is in the Bible.

do you know that's true, because you've attended so many churches of various customs and heard so much preaching, and are such an expert yourself, or are you making a lot of assumptions and generalizations by saying this?

It does not matter what denomination of Church you go to ( unless it is an Amish Church) you are going to find women who are dressed inappropriately. Why do women dress like that? What is their thinking behind it?

I used to be one of those woman Peeps,I dressed like I was promiscuous (though I was not) ,,,,I was raised in NYC,went to private schools where everyone was privileged & could afford designer clothes,my parents & family were very fashion conscious & "trendy" and it was what I knew to be "normal",,,,,,,Being "cool" was a thing in my circles & everyone in NYC is very "status" minded ,if you know what I mean,,,,,,,,most days I was training for athletics, wore uniforms or at the barn training for horse shows and in "barn clothes",,,,,,,so for me,"jeans" meant mucking out stalls & getting down & dirty,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I grew up in a family with money as well but when I was going to school low necklines were not in fashion. But bikinis were and that is about as risque as I got. I never liked men gawking at me. It made me uncomfortable and that is when I was not even living a Christian life. I have always been modest. It is just the way I am. Oh I had the latest fashions and I am blessed that I could be very fashionable. I went to a high school where we had a dress code. We could not wear pants we could only wear a dress and our dresses and skirts had to reach the floor when we knelt down...knee length.. And they enforced it believe me  I was sent home a time or two. This was not a private school but a public high school somewhat out in the country.

My thoughts are....why do women dress in a provocative way? It is because they think they have a beautiful body? You know the saying "If you've got it flaunt it" or is it because all the other women are doing it so they want to fit in?

Is it because they are trying to get looks from men because they are insecure? Are they trying to make other women jealous? I am the queen of simple and dressing very conservative so honestly don't know. I Don't Know

Hey Peep,,,,

Yeah,,,,I can only tell you my opinion so I can't speak for everyone. I do think that they simply do not know any different for whatever that may be,,,,,for me,,,,yeah"I grew up in an enviornment where the mindset was ,,,,,"If you got it flaunt it",,,,,,very superficial,,,,,,,,,not insecure but rather influenced by the spirits of "pride","vanity",,,,,,& other "self" indulgences,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it was never about "attracting" the opposite sex ,,,,,,more about self worship,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,pitiful before Christ makes you over,,,,,,,,Love,Kwik

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
