Get out a notepad, and get a red letter addition of the Bible in hand, and look through the sayings of Jesus, to see what He had told the apostles to do. Basically, that mostly limits that requirement to the gospels, and a lot of what one will see there, is redundant between the four gospels. That is not a lot of material, and not a lot of interpretation is needed, just basically a repetition of what Jesus said. One does not have to be all that well studied, insightful, or otherwise specially qualified, to just hlep people understand, what Jesus expects from disciples. We all can do that, and, it does not say:

"Do it when you feel qualified!"

it just says:

"Do it!"

Right?

Of course, as we do this, there will be questions new disciples will have. However, that is a chance for us to learn as well, when we do not know something, we can find out, and get back to them, or point them to where they can get answers. We can help them find a good local fellowship, where they can grow further, and of course once the "Jesus said" requirements are out of the way, they can get the teachings of the apostles themselves, in the New Testament, just as you and I already do.

Thanks for your reply MG, it was nice, but don't sell yourself short, you can do it!

I'll take that as a 'go', O Man.  Hopefully I won't confuse anyone.

I was studying in the book of Acts today, and thought of you, when I read this:

24 Now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the Scriptures. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John; 26 and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Notice, that this guy, only knew about the baptism of John, not even Christian baptism, maybe did not eve know that Jesus had died and resurrected. We do not know how much he did not know, but he was out there doing it, in a hostile crowd, publicly teaching accurately, the things he DID know. His relative ignorance did not stop him, he apparently, humbly submitted to learn from those who did, and learn the way of God, more accurately. Not perfectly, not exhaustively, just more accurately!

Yes; none of us has the 100 percent when it comes to teaching. But it isn't about how much truth we know: instead, we need to get that truth out there where it can work. I'd rather do that than wait until I "have it all down" and heaven only knows how many people slipped on into eternity because I didn't feel "qualified".

MorningGlory: I've seen what you've written here on the forums. I don't think you'll have any problems! :)

I made a reference earlier in this thread, to Jesus command to make disciples, and that in that was a command to teach them to obey Him.

I thought today, maybe I should see what sort of things there were, I suggested to MorningGlory, that she could consider reading a red letter (Jesus words in red letters) version of the Bible, and some note on some of those things.

Today, I followed that advice myself, and though I will post it in it's own thread, I thought to share it here, where the idea was born. With not further delay:

True Discipleship

Omegaman 3.0 - 5/13/16

The Great Commision

Jesus, in his great commission ( Matt 28:19-20 ), given to his disciples, told them to make other disciples and to teach them to obey everything that he had said.
If Jesus told his disciples to make other disciples and the teach them to obey everything he said, one of the things that the new disciples were to obey (because Jesus told the first disciples to do) is to make more disciples who are taught to obey.

So, here we are some 2000 years later having been made disciples, because other disciples in the past have handed down the command of making disciples and teaching the new disciples to obey what Jesus said.

So if we want to be true disciples of Jesus we also must make disciples and teach them to obey Christ and of course we must obey Christ as well.

Obedience to what?

So what things did Jesus command that we are supposed to pass on to others and that we ourselves are supposed to obey?

Listed below I have collected quite a few of the verses from the Gospel (Matthew primarily) which contain the commandments of Jesus. It is not an exhaustive list. Some of the things Jesus cammanded were to particular individuals, not to us, so I did not include those. For example, after Jesus had spat on the ground and applied the clay to the eyes (I hope that means the eyelids) of the blind begger, He said: "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam". Clearly, that command was not to be applied to everyone, so that sort of thing, is not in the following list.

Repent - Matthew 4:17

Follow Jesus - Matthew 4:19, 8:22

Let Your Good Works be Seen (with right motives) - Matthew 5:16

Reconcile & Confront Others, the Right Way - Matt 5:23–24, Matt 18:15–17

Don't Sin in Action or in Thought - Matthew 5:27–30

Don Make Oaths - Matthew 5:3437

Don't Respond to Evil with Evil - Matthew 5:39-42

Love and Pray for Your Enemies - Matthew 5:44–46

Be Perfect - Matthew 5:48

Seek God's Kingdom First - Matthew 6:33

Don't Judge  -Matthew 7:1 (My Commentary on Judgement)

Don't Waste Your Breath - Matthew 7:6

Treat Others as You Would Like to be Treated - Matthew 7:12

Enter Eternity Through the Narrow Gate - Matthew 7:13-14

Be Wary of False Prophets - Matthew 7:15–16

Ask God to Send More Workers - Matthew 9:37–38

Don't Fear Those Who Can Kill You, Fear God - Matthew 10:28

Come to Jesus for Rest - Matthew 11:28

Forgive Readily and Repeatedly - Matthew 18:21–22

Give What is Due to Whom it is Due - Matthew 22:21

Love God - Matthew 22:37–38

Love your Neighbor - Matthew 22:39

Share in the Lord's Supper (Communion) - Matthew 26:26–27

Keep Guard Against Temptation - Matthew 26:41

Make Disciples - Matthew 28:19-20

Preach the Gospel - Mark 16:15

Don'r be Greedy - Luke 12:15

Give to Those Who Cannot Give Back - Luke 14:12–14

Love Other Disciples -  John 13:34 John 15:12 John 15:17

Suggested followup: If you consider yourself a disciple of the Christ, think about how you are doing, measured by the above list

Interesting; I don't remember ever reading that particular passage but there's a lesson to be learned there.

Yes there is indeed. John's baptism also continued to be administered by Christ's disciples.

Joh 4:1  When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2  (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

the Pharisees rejected God's counsel.

Lu 7:30  But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. {rejected: or, frustrated } {against…: or, within themselves

A prophet baptizing for remission of sin to flee the wrath that was coming.

Mt 3:7  But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Lu 3:7  Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Lu 21:23  But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
Joh 3:36  He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

John's disciples were all over the place...........................................................

ac 19:1   And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3  And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
4  Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5  When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

I am not amazed to hear, how simple it is to learn and to show someone, Jesus , but I believe that no one, really learns ,

until they have really surrendered and their life, changes, to the tune, of the belief and the inthe lord,

I hear many say , we need to love one another, and share, but what happens to those, that want to rob, the seeds and the words, when trying to be compassionate, and then we have the do as I say , but I do evil to others, for it is a self  pride, and then we see that this is not how it works, or we are watching talk and yet the actions, are speaking differently ?

how do we bring people to God and not show them the self of our pride ,hat gets in the way ?

for I see, what I see, and some, people can fool some, people some, of the time, but I am not convinced, for I know truth ,and what truth  the word of God,must be placed as the fruits of the trees that are supplying ,one another, and I see bad fruits, among the bunch, and so how do we weed out the bad fruit from the good fruits ?

for teaching is not , to be taken lightly , for there is value, in the holiness and power in the life, that one, should take, into account before trying to convince some one of a belief or religion, that they don't even understand,

blessings

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
