This is something I posted on Facebook previously; it popped up as a "Your memories on Facebook." It seems appropriate to repost it here.

~~

What is Christmas? Some people will tell you that it began as a redeemed pagan holiday. Others will tell you it began as the Church Institution corrupting Christianity with paganism in order to gain converts. Others do not care about the origins for the joy of celebrating the birth of Christ Jesus, Immanuel, God-becoming-man. Others regard Christmas as a time for sharing and caring. Others think of Christmas as a time to be together with family. Others think of Christmas as a fun time of festivities and decoration. Others think of Christmas as the mad shopping season. Others think of Christmas as the time to open presents (especially the younger crowd 1f609.png;) ). But of course most people think of Christmas as some mixture of the above elements.

So where am I going with this? I don't know, other than just marveling how something that for so long has brought people together is now tearing people apart. When so many people celebrate the lights, the parties, the tree decorating, the gift-giving, Santa, and the like without regard for the Nativity, why is Christmas treated as being a select holiday in such a way that people don't even want to call it "Christmas?" (I mean, you've got the red and green, the mistletoe, the wreath, the decorated tree, the reindeer, Santa - all things that became a part of the Christmas celebration - yet it is PC to call it "the holiday" rather than "Christmas." ??)

Anyway, that's my pondering

I do celebrate christmas.

I see it as a civil holiday.

I think its ok to see it as commemorating Christ birth but it is not the anniversary of same.

In the same way some countries celebrate the monarchs birthday but the public holiday is not on the actual anniversary of their birth.

Its a civil holiday commemorating something.

It only becomes pagan if you do it that way.

Well I hope you all have worked out this debate on Christmas. Because Christmas is almost here! And then we have to debate the next holiday with pagan origins, which I think will be Easter. Then we can find out who is passing out eggs and shame them for it.

I stopped commenting on this thread following your comment here.

I spent this time asking God for guidance on how to respond, as I felt you were being candid that you felt I was being harsh.

How is directness, truth and openness harsh?

I did not feel that was an accurate assessment.  More like a 'put out many fires' and I was 'just in the way' retort.

I apologize if I misunderstood the spirit behind your post. I can see that my post gave you a likewise misunderstanding.

That's the trouble with message boards, we don't have the body language and voice tone that clarifies the feelings we put into our words. It is so easy to interpret anger in a post when no anger was there.

(paraphrase.  The 'evil' spirit behind Christmas)

This just seems kind of sad. I don't know why but it just seems sad. And I kind of think that spirit of Christmas is just a saying. Not a real spirit.

It is devastating, not just sad.   Yes, in the world is not just a real spirit, but many spirits, and most not good.   To be free from that power is only found in Christ Jesus.  The greatness of His Salvation from the world and the loves and lusts of the world is so much mightier and pervasive and overwhelming and thorough as

we find out more and more what we were saved from.   (it is far far too much for any person to handle all at once).

Yeah......but I still think the spirit of Christmas is just a saying. Kind of like when someone says "come on that's the spirit!" when they are trying to cheer someone up. I guess what I think is sad is when people  see evil in everything. I'm not telling anyone to go against what they think the Lord has called them to do. But I think we need to know what is real and what is not . And while yes there are evil spirits, I really think when people talk about having the Christmas spirit; it is just a saying. Nothing more.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
