To me, by far the greatest gift from the Spirit is discernment.

To be able to discern what God is telling us in His word.
To be able to discern when men are telling us a lie.
To be able to discern what is the right action to do right now.

This has been the greatest benefit to my life.
And we can never say we have enough.
For there is more to discern that we haven't discerned yet.

I pray Lord help us to know God's righteousness
Paul

And I will come near to you to judgment;
and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers,
and against the adulterers,
and against false swearers,
and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless,
and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not Me,
saith the LORD of hosts.

Malachi 3:5

1Corinthians 12:10  To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues;

to another the interpretation of tongues:

discernment is not a gift of the Holy Spirit distributed to the Spirit-filled church.

discernment as you describe it arises out of; first the receiving of the indwelling Holy Spirit, who teaches us spiritual things and of Jesus.

Second, there are the gifts of

1Corinthians 12:8  For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

these gifts allow us to exercise discernment as insight, prudence and understanding.

But the gift of discerning of spirits is a gift to prevent a Pentecostal believer being deceived by false doctrines and false miracles.

The enemy is capable of playing games with undisciplined Pentecostal disciples who are not grounded and stablished in the word of God.

It is imperative that one prays for the discerning whether or not something is of Jesus.

1Thessalonians 5:21  Prove [test] all things; hold fast that which is good.

1John 4:1  Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try [test] the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

thus the gift of discerning of spirits is a vital and necessary component of a saints spiritual armour.

I've often thought the same, that discerning of spirits is the greatest among the gifts. However, in my recent understanding of His Word it would seem to me that each moment has a need in and of itself and in that moment we are to desire the "higher gifting" for that moment if that makes sense. Just my own 2 cents, but I think we should all walk with the desire to be used by Him in whatever way possible at all times.

Of course it makes sense, it sounds a lot like this.

I Corinthians 9:19 For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. 21 To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

God bless

discernment is most important

once the religious worshiper has reached the point of having the true Holy Spirit, albeit (initially) in rudimentary state, they receive special gifts - e.g. some brothers could see, hear or do things (in a way) others couldn't; also, their ability to understand what is good and what is not became higher and deeper

Blessings

Thanks! I believe another important use of discernment (of spirits) is to know when you're dealing with a stubborn human and when you're dealing with a demon that can be mastered. The stubborn human is usually tougher!

I call this one wisdom, even a Solomon was given wisdom to know which was the true mother of the child--the one that would spare its life.

It is God showing us what to do in a given situation.  It never goes against Scripture.  It is governed by love.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
