Sometimes we all go through trials, sometimes severe trials.   But in the midst of suffering, we still need to be grateful to God and praise Him.   We need a thankful heart.   I think it would make us feel worse if we were not willing to thank God or be grateful in our trials.

Amen bro. thats exactly the reality, we cannot just parroting Psalms and hoping God to protect us like David.

Well, I think the Psalms can be very comforting when we go through things.   If we meditate upon them, it can be of help to us in our afflictions.

That's why I like to post some of the verses from Psalms.

I like what Debp said and agree with you that there are trials. (Debp, thanks for your insights!)

Fully agree to with your above statement and good clarification. We cannot just parrot the Psalms and expect God to be there. It is faith and obedience.

I love the story of Joseph. He is a believer before his trial started and during all his trials, many being very difficult, he never cursed the Lord. David also went through difficult trials, and it seems like some of these trials were due to his sit with that Sheeba in the murder of her husband.

Personally, my life somewhat followed Joseph’s, however, not to the degree of suffering. I was a luke-warm believer that had my share of habitual sins. After being laid off from a job, 4 kids, mortgage, etc. and being out of work for almost a year, it was a trial. I literally was on my knees praying some days, which I had never done before.  This is when I went from a luke- warm Sunday morning Christian to committing to His ways. I committed myself to God and His ways and cleaned my habitual sins.  It has been amazing how Galations 5:22-23 have permeated me. This has been the biggest blessing!

  Good discussion.

It seems that many don’t believe that the promises in the OT are often only for the people of the OT.
However, this requires that we read the OT and pick and choose what can be true for us and what isn’t.
I don’t see where in the New Testament that blessings are cancelled. In fact, in 1 Timothy 4:13 it Paul told the new believers to read the scriptures, which was much of the OT at that time.

1 Timothy 4:13 NLT
[13] Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.

Psalm 25 says that those who fear him will live in prosperity

Psalm 25:12-14 NLT
[12] Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose. [13] They will live in prosperity, and their children will inherit the land. [14] The LORD is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant.

Also

Proverbs 28:25 NLT
[25] Greed causes fighting; trusting the LORD leads to prosperity.

Are some blessings stated in the OT cancelled by the NT? If so, which ones and why?

The old testament is full of types and shadows and allegories as spiritual lessons for the ekklesia.   Israel in scripture herself is the church's ensample/allegory.   The riches and wealth promised to Israel as long as she walked in obedience to the Lord, are an allegory for the spiritual riches that are ours in Christ.....Jesus said to take no thought for what to eat or wear etc.....if we are in need we are to pray and ask the Lord to meet our needs according to His riches in glory.  Good health and protection from diseases mean we as believers can be healed by the Lord and kept by Him according to His will.  Fruitful wombs and abundant crops are an allegory for spiritual fruitfulness and harvest of souls.  The gospel simply is not about prosperity and life in this world, but about being rescued from the world, to be citizens of His kingdom and be partakers of His economy (provision) rather than the world's.  We cannot serve both God and mammon.  When Israel became materially prosperous she forgot God....the same is happening with the prosperous western church today.

Check out the word riches in the bible and see what can be gleaned from the use of that word in the New Testament.

Thanks for your reply.
I agree that we cannot state we are a Christian and expect blessings to flow.

I use an analogy of an army squadron of my perspective

Most squads often sit around waiting for orders, not really knowing what is the plan is. Some squads are destined to be in the fight of the battle, some are destined to be on the supply lines, some are cooks,  some are destined to stay in the home country and train others. ALL are needed. All that train well and are committed are well regarded by the commanders and are recognized for their achievements. And those that are humble are especially well regarded by their commander.
Yes, some sacrifice a LOT more than others. And some make the ultimate sacrifice for sure. God’s blessings on their thoughts and hears is amazing. The other 80% to 90% that make the army work also need to train well, be committed, and will be recognized by the commander.

The Christians that make the ultimate sacrifice must fiercely have the spirit of the Lord in them. God is taking the clay and made them and blessed them, I would believe that God also richly blesses the clay that became cooks and mechanics and accountants that make the organization work.

Just my perspective, thanks for your insights.

God will cause everything to work together for the good of those who love Him.  But we are cautioned where Jesus said it is harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.  It's nigh impossible for human beings to learn to trust the Lord and walk by faith when they have huge bank accounts.  One reason we have trials is so that we can learn perseverance and become strengthened spiritually through the exercising of our faith....and another reason is for the purifying of our souls because who has suffered in the body is done with sin.  The gospel just is not about material things, but spiritual.

Hi not to offend but has anyone here told or asked God about this? Well its His word and His promises and then who exactly they are for and which ones are "allegory" blah blah blah?

"And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."  "So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham." "Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise."

This above is just a touch of what His word says. And read one saying .. someone would have to keep all the law 613 if you wanted to use those promises. Yet its written "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Did not Christ say 'Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Faith works. So if you do not believe.. then you will never receive. See we play with the word "doubt". But the word is clear in James talking about if you lack wisdom let him ask in faith with out doubting. If you doubt your like a ship tossed back on forth on the waves. Let not that man think he will get ANYTHING from God.

Not here to push or debate or prove this. Not my word I don't have to. Those promises are mine! Didn't get this from some group. Haha..had a best friend HAD (him and his wife believers..had allot of money oops and bought this huge camper, they were like 25 and took off around America. Never heard from him again haha) One day as I was chatting about faith he said ..you got this from that faith group. So I showed him my bible. I don't about you but.. for me some verses just POP OUT you can't get past them. I had ALL the promises in Deu read at our wedding. I am not lucky.. I simple believe that word..not what man tells me it really means.

See I really and in love wonder do some really truly believe JESUS is real? You believe in Jesus so where is He? Just ONE place in heaven seated at the right hand of the Father? Yep. In you? With you? So how would you like to be with someone 24/7 and only get a few min of time? Yeah.. oh and then the sweet Holy spirit.. now He won't ever talk about himself.

Truth.. if you want to get close to Him.. its by prayer. Take a moment some time and think about just what who GOD really is. Then who in heaven or anywhere in Gods creation can call Him FATHER? You can TRY and debate with Him..and HE LISTENS! He LOVES to hear you talk. Want to know whats YOURS that HE gave all that believe love Him. Pray.. seek and ask.

Have faith. You didn't start this. HE DID! He can't lie. He said.. "being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;"
get that? Being CONFIDENT.. this good work (ooh work) He begun... He will complete. PRAISE GOD AGAIN! So man I take ANYTHING everything my Father gives in JESUS name! If I am wrong in anyting Father cahnge me first in Jesus name. Its SPIRITUAL not of flesh

An affirmative amen on this, brother! We are inheritors. We were adopted into His Kingdom. Made acceptable by Yehoshua H'Mashiach = Jesus the Messiah. Graphed into the vine. All this and so much more. If we expect miracles in this time, then we must believe Him at His word. Thanks for posting this. Hallelujah!

That's not the point at all. The disciples responded to the saying by asking, who then can be saved. In other words, their reaction was that if it is so difficult for the rich to enter in the kingdom of heaven, then how much more difficult is it for those who aren't rich. They did not respond by saying, blessed are the poor! And the entire point Jesus was making concerns the inability of man to do good enough works to enter the kingdom of heaven. So that is why Jesus laid down His life, that we can be justified solely on His righteousness, not our own.

And so, to the OP, no Old Testament blessings are cancelled. They are rather realized in the New Testament.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
