Do you ever find that you read a story in the Bible, that you think you know so well, and then you notice something you never noticed before?

Who knows, perhaps what you notice will be something we haven't noticed yet?

So, in out daily reading with my husband, I noticed that two of John's disciples ended up following Jesus.

I remember learning the names of the disciples,  but somehow this never stood out until a couple weeks ago.

Luke 6:29~31 Eye for Eye

Luke 6:32~36 Love for Enemies B

Matthew 6:1~4 Giving to the Needy

Yes. Poetry in Hebrew is not rhymes it is concepts. Hyperbole is often used.

Example: the Aramaic for camel and camel hair rope or twine is the same. So when it is mentioned about the rich man the the camel passing thru the eye of a needle, it is double in its meaning. Camel hair rope or twine is VERY difficult to thread.

I remember reading long ago that God didn't want Israel to have a king, but they demanded one and he gave them one, or something like that.

What I just read a few days ago was that before the Israelis went into the promised land, God said he'd give Israel a king. It occurs to me, though, that doesn't mean he wanted them to have king.

An epiphany..

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away:
and every branch that beareth fruit,
he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
       John 15, 1-2

I studied John 15 in KJV many times, and wondered why those who actually  "beareth fruit" were purged.
Seemed like they were punished for doing good.
Then by chance I read the verse in the 'Living Bible and the verse read;

“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit,
and
he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.

This version says "he prunes" the branches. Duh! I got it. Like my wife prunes her roses, to get more blossoms.
I understood that we are branches (believers) grafted into the true vine (Jesus) and as we abide, our Father, the vine tender, prunes us of unnecessary growth, that lessens/hampers the fruit. As I abide, the vine tender cuts away much of me so there is less of me, but more fruit. The nutrients from the vine can now produce fruit instead of me.
Less me, more fruit.

Epiphany: a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something. (2) : an intuitive grasp of reality through something (such as an event) usually simple and striking. (3) : an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure

Learned what an epiphany was from Josheb. The above was one.
Thanks Annette, neat thread......

Hi Annette, which disciples are you talking about? My mind flashed to Polycarp and Irenaeus.

But yeah, just recently finishing 1st and 2nd Samuel, studying and reading slowly 1 Samuel 23:11-13, I discovered God said some things would happen to David, and they did not. This lead me to a deeper study of predestination, omniscience and free will and choice. No matter our free will choice we exercise, the Lord knows the outcome and repercussions of any and all choices we may choose.

I am reading Heiser's book "The Unseen Realm" and he dedicates an entire chapter to 1 Samuel 23 and that very topic.

As soon as I read your post,  Hebrews 4:12 came to mind.  All scripture is God breathed. His word is living and active. So no matter how many times I read my bible, it is always new and fresh.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Reading Unseen Realm is what brought it to my attention for further study. I guess I never paid that much attention to it as many times as I read it?

Some times I think we look so hard into the meaning of the scriptures that we miss the simple things.

I remember playing how big is the baby and then saying sooo big, then as they got older, you would say I love you this much and holding your arms out, then it was up to the ceiling, then up to the moon

I remember watching my daughter sitting on the floor playing with her blocks. She looked up and said daddy I love you up to the sky. That moment brought me to Palms 103

11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who fear him;

God our Father is telling us, I love you up to the sky

The same thing I told my kids, We are his children and he loves us like we are his children

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
