Yes, I am not experiencing a lot of honorable experience today in the people I meet.

To be held in honor you must first be an honorable person.  Merriam Webster describes honor this way and I hold the people I consider honorable to these standards and more so for those in leadership positions or positions of authority:

Synonyms of honor - faithfulness to high moral standards

Synonyms for honor - honesty, integrity, probity, rectitude, righteousness, uprightness

Words Related to honor - blamelessness, character, conscientiousness, decency, fairness, high-mindedness, incorruptibility, irreproachability, irreproachableness, justice, morality, nobility, reputability, respectability, right-mindedness, scrupulousness, virtue, virtuousness.

I read all of the antonyms but did not want to post all of those. Yikes. To be a person without honor, heaven help them!

In the KJV the order of the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. 

Check out the Greek definitions in Strong's Concordance for gentleness. Extra study yields the thought to be related to the manner in which one acts towards others.

I think of honorable, as a person who does what is right, that makes them worthy of honor, but being honorable is not a guarantee that one will receive honor - at least not from people in this life!
