Yes, I think it is somewhat of an issue.

I bought a hardback copy of the Message when it first came out.  I was going  to use it as my primary Biblefor that particular year.

There were too many alterations of words and phrases that either added to or deleted the literal message of the Bible for my taste.  To me, it's the mind of Peterson, not the words of God.

I'm not going to go around burning these books.  Just suggesting that people use something else.

Personally, I’m a big fan of The Message. However, I never read a passage from it without reading the same passage from a different version.

Well I haven't read every translation out there but one thing I have understood so far is that a version ( such as ) the King James is highly instrumental in conducting an in depth study of God's Word. The only way we can understand truth is to compare scripture with scripture. Not a paraphrase, not someone's footnotes on the bottom of the page. Essentially we can blame Wescott and Hort for this current barrage of confusion with all these translations!

Blaming Wescott and Hort for anything is a favorite line of the KJVO crowd, but there is no basis for that accusation.  Modern translations are based on many manuscripts from history and other relevant data, as well as increased knowledge of the ancient languages and customs.

May I suggest the book " New Age versions" by Gail Riplinger. It is essentially a comparison between the 1881 Revised edition ( the "mother" of all newer translations) and the Authorized Version.

Here is part of Amazon's description: "This book is the result of an exhaustive six year collation of new bible versions, their underlying Greek manuscripts, editions, and editors. It objectively and methodically documents the hidden alliance between new versions and the New Age Movement's One World Religion ... The Greek manuscripts, critical editions, lexicons and dictionaries behind the new versions are examined, revealing their occult origins, contents, and yet unreleased material - a blueprint for the Antichrist's One World Religion and government. Presented also is the latest research proving the Authorized King James Version represents not only Christianity's earliest and most widely used Greek text, but is the easiest version to read according to computer analysis based formulas from the Flesch-Kincaid research firm." (my emphasis)

I wouldn't even consider buying such biased trash.

I have a New Testament dated 1865.  It was a soldier's Bible from the Civil war era.

I read a Bible from 1852 by James Murdock he translated the syriac peshitto to English quite fascinating

I have made scripture comparisons over the years primarily with the NIV (arguably the most popular version next to the KJV) so I really haven't considered other translations. I will make comparisons with other versions on a parallel Bible app. I am just at peace with the KJV. God the Holy Spirit has shown me ( and a great many others) many truths with this version.

That's fine , I guess.

Oh, I would never depend on the NIV, or any Bible that paraphrases the Holy scriptures.

Are you calling the NIV a paraphrase here?

That is a pretty long read, but well worth it if you like history.  I'd be interested to see some sort of work in the progression from one translation to another, as to see the differences between them.  As expected, not all texts were available for translation, so they had to be satisfied with a smorgasbord of text from different languages.

This does, however, cast a shadow over the accuracy of scripture, throwing fuel on the fire of doubt.  Though I fully trust the Holy Spirit to bring us the truth, not all readers have this privilege.

Yes--there is no possible way that the Lord does not give His own, what is needed for His purposes. I am actually more and more encouraged by the various sources of study on these things, than doubtful. I see the Lord in all of it.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
