I was listening to Greg Laurie on the radio today and he said (paraphrased): "We need to learn about Jesus from the Bible.  And ultimately our purpose is to become like Jesus."  I waited for him to say exactly how that most important purpose happens, but he didn't.

So if this is such an ultimately critical thing (and from my reading of the word I think it is, right?) - how exactly do we become like Jesus

We need to show more love to the world instead of judgement. The world knows what we are against,  but not as many know what we are for.  Love and Compassion ( and reaching out to our neighbors ) is how we become more like Jesus. It's not our theology, it's our lifestyle.

I thought you might press for more than that.

If it was me preaching on this I would exhort from Ephesians 4 as follows:

Eph 4:7-16  But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.  (8)  Therefore He says: "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE, AND GAVE GIFTS TO MEN."  (9)  (Now this, "HE ASCENDED"—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?  (10)  He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)  (11)  And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,  (12)  for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,  (13)  till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;  (14)  that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,  (15)  but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—  (16)  from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

I have noted verse 7 above and recalled that access to God's Grace requires faith.

Rom 5:1-2  Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,  (2)  through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

The Holy Spirit uses a baby as an analogy for the new Christian. After he is born he needs the following;

  1. Milk. Hebrews 5 and 6 say that milk is the basic doctrines of Christ. Six are listed.
  2. Love. Other Christians should welcome him and not require too much
  3. Fellowship. He needs to be part of a people who testify as to the Lord's doings in their lives
  4. To read the Bible. 2nd Corinthians 3:18 says by looking upon Jesus we are transformed from glory to glory
  5. To be taught that suffering is part of our lives. Romans 8 and Peter deals with this
  6. Spend time with the Lord alone. How will you know anyone unless you mix with them
  7. As he matures move on to "meat" - the gospel of righteousness (Heb.5:12-14)
  8. As he matures move on to the need for a holy living - separation from the world and a clean testimony
  9. Do your utmost to have a love affair with Jesus. Study His trials and triumphs.

Hi VA,

Greg Laurie is a very good speaker my brother really likes him. Now, a great and important question as we are approaching `lift off` day.

My thoughts are -  ` Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and virtue,

by which have been given to us, exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. ` (2 Peter 1: 2 - 4)

So, I see that it is very important to know the truth of Christ, His character and His purposes, so that we clearly understand what He has promised us. These truths enable us, through humility in God` Spirit, to partake of Christ`s divine nature.

This is what will bring the individual and the corporate Body of Christ, (the new MAN) to completion.

" till we all come to the unity of the faith and the KNOWLEDGE OF THE SON OF MAN, to a PERFECT MAN, (complete). " (Eph. 4: 13)

Marilyn.

First of all, we have to want to be like Jesus.  We need to read the Bible front to back to understand his makeup and what we are trying to replicate.  Once we have called him our Lord and believed, he will send the Holy Spirit to guide us.

But, I do believe the first step is to decide that's what we want.

If we are presuming that becoming like Christ is an "ultimate issue" for Christians, should we first show some verses which demonstrates that is God's will for us?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
