The reason any nation would attempt to defeat God’s people with conventional weapons is ignorance of who is in control.  No conventional weapon, not even modern weapons that have yet to be invented or tried, can prevail against the strength of the LORD.  Our Father, who is in control, clearly outlines His purpose for fighting these battles for us in Ezekiel 39:

verse 7:  “I will make My holy name known.”…

verse 13:  “I shall be glorified, saith the LORD.”…

verse 21:   “I will set My glory among the heathens.”…

Verse 28:  “Then they shall know that I am the LORD their God.”

All battles past, present, or future that would seek to replace our Father’s wisdom with man’s have already been lost.  All souls belong to God, and He will always defeat the soul’s enemies (whether they be the world, the flesh, or the devil) so that His name will be exalted above all.

I see, I was looking for it in 38.
39:2 could also be translated:

"And I will turn thee around, and lead you on, and will cause thee to come up from the far north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel"

In my Bible that alternate translation is noted in the middle references.

We also have Ezekiel 37:1-14 rooting us, clearly speaking of resurrection, to the point where to say otherwise one has to say that 'graves' does not mean graves, but there is no scriptural backing for that. Paul in Acts 26:6-8 speaks of the promise of resurrection made by God to the Fathers, and there is no other such promise except in Ezekiel 37:9-12, by that we can be sure Ezekiel 37 is speaking about actual resurrection. Ezekiel 37:24 is speaking of an actual resurrected David, we can be sure from Jeremiah 30:9 which says "David, whom I will raise up unto them".

And so with resurrections needing to happen first, before Gog and Magog, we know that Ezekiel 37 38 39 is speaking of the same thing as Revelation 20:4-10.

Israel is restored from even death and brought back into their land, that is the great final return of the captives.

If I may, I would like to insert a few alternate thoughts for consideration.

As stated in this thread, antiquity did not have the concept or vocabulary to describe nuclear weapons, intelligent weapons, bombs, rockets & missiles, drones, tanks, satellites, machine guns, etc. Thus, horses, bucklers, shields, etc.

However, horses, mules, and primitive technology have always been used in war. They have been used extensively in WW II, Afghanistan, and many other places and modern times and are still employed today. Animals and primitive technology can go to places mechanized people with machinery and equipment cannot, for various needs and reasons.

Briefly, the title Gog would be comparable to Leader, President, General, et al. I have no doubt Magog (and Rosh) is an ancient land, and that geographical area is Russia today. The original name of "the Great Wall of China" was the Ramparts of Magog. Genesis chapter 10, Herodotus (father of history), Josephus (Ant. Of the Jews, Book I, Chap. 6), and elsewhere confirm the Scythians descended from the Magogs. Two distinct Gog-Magog biblical events seem to be separated by about a millennium. But I digress.  

Advanced technology is readily apparent in the Tribulation and used by the Antichrist. Global control of the economic system, who can buy and sell quickly, the Beast's image, the mark of the Beast, how fast he conquers his enemies, etc.

Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

The above could be a massive solar flare, CME, or supernatural act of God, but based on the biblical scope and narrative, I suspect this is a nuclear blast.

Ezekiel 39:6 And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

I suspect the same here, also.

Ezekiel 39:14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search. 15. And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man's bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog.

The classic NBC military standard operating procedure for contamination.

Looking at the following verse more closely:

Ezekiel 39:9 And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:

Does it make efficient and common sense to collect a bunch of wood throughout the land to stockpile for electricity, energy needs, and consumption? It could be primitive warfare because the globe (or areas) reverted to the stone age. Due to the use of EMP attacks, the sun is acting up, sending massive solar flares or CMEs.

But I can interpret Ezekiel 39:9, based on the NBC marking and clean up, as radioactive weapons of war that are launched and fly. Handstaves are interpreted as "rods," and nuclear rods are employed in nuclear power plants.

Great question, based on the weapons there are modern counterparts for each listed.

Bow & Arrow = Gun, Bullets, Crossbows etc.

Shields = Riot Shields

Handstaves (N0t sure maybe it's a knife)

Spears (Maybe a knife)

Chariots & Horses = Millarty suvs etc.

 

Take into account many of the revelations of the bible are given in a symbolic way, example when John saw beast in revelation he did not see the actual country they represent.

 

But more importantly i feel a prerequisite for this discussion is to identify Gog & Magog and it'll shed some light.

Have you considered the gog war happens after a nuclear war? Most conventual weapons will be destroyed and many bodies will need to be buried. In the aftermath the syna-gog-ue of satan rises up and after 42 months is defeated by Christ and after the thousand years, the syn-Magog-ue tries again.

I submit the nuclear threat is greater now than the Cuban missile crises of the 1960s. With Russia's economy and loss of oil sales due to Israel's new pipeline to Europe, the Russian stranglehold of heating fuel to Europe has been somewhat relieved. They cannot afford a protracted war in Ukraine or lose face, as with Afghanistan. The aggressive expansionist Soviet Union Bear is back.

Putin's threat of using nuclear weapons is not saber rattling or a bluff. With the assistance of Russia, Iran will have atomic capability very soon and will employ that weapon against Israel. Israel has vowed not to allow Iran to join the nuclear club. Not to mention the newest member and threat, North Korea, and have a delivery system.  

Consider the mutual defense treaties Russia has in place, with Russia's threats and hostility toward Israel for their sorties bombing Iranian weapons arriving in Syria.

When, not if, the first nuclear weapon pops off in a city or the battlefield since WW II, how will the U.S., its allies, and NATO respond?  

The world is becoming more dangerous (perilous times) by the day.

Do you think there may be distractions everywhere? Sometimes I think I am the only one with situational awareness. Everywhere I look, people have their noses planted in their smartphones, not paying any attention to what is happening around them.
