One of my absolutely all-time favourite Christmas carols is 'Silent Night'

One of the verses, especially, never fails to bring tears to my eyes:

Silent Night, Holy Night

Son of God, Loves' pure Light

Radiant beams, thy Holy face

With the dawn of Redeeming Grace

Jesus, Lord, at thy birth

Jesus, Lord, at thy birth

Of course, I also have many other favourites, one of them being Boney M's 'Mary's boy child', for example.

What is your favourite, or favourites? And why?

Can you provide a clip for it, also?

"Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord" by BoneyM has got to be my favourite carol of all time.

My other favourites (in order) are: "Oh Holey Night"

"The little drummer boy"

"Oh little town of Bethlehem"

"Oh rest ye, merry gentlemen"

"Joy to the world"

"The first Noel"

There are far more, but I don't have time to think of them now.

Of course we mustn't forget "Snoopy's Christmas".

And "What are we gonna get 'er indoors for Christmas"

What Child is this Third day version

What child is this, who laid to rest

On Marys lap was sleeping

Whom angels greet with anthem sweet

While shepherds watch are keeping

This, this is Christ the King

Whom shepherds guard and angels sing

Haste, haste to bring him laud

The babe the Son of Mary

Nails and spear shall pierce him through

the cross be born for me, for you

Hail, Hail the word made flesh

The babe, the son of mary

This, this is Christ the King

Whom shepherds guard and angels sing

Haste, haste to bring him laud

The babe the Son of Mary

So bring him incense, gold and myrrh

Come peasant, king, to own him

The King of Kings salvation brings

Let loving hearts enthrone him

This, this is Christ the King

Whom shepherds guard and angels sing

Haste, haste to bring him laud

The babe the Son of Mary

(repeat)

The babe the Son of Mary

It's a toss up...The First Noel and Good King Wenceslas (or however he spells his name...).

The First Noel because the lyrics and meoldy are so powerful and Good King Wenceslas because it tells a wonderful story that always brings a tear to my eye.

"Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" - hands down. So many Christmas songs have the facts messed up (like having the shepherds following the star), but Charles Wesley was obviously reading his Bible when he wrote this one.

My favorite verse:

Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!

Hail the Son of Righteousness!

Light and life to all He brings

Ris'n with healing in His wings

Mild He lays His glory by

Born that man no more may die

Born to raise the sons of earth

Born to give them second birth

Hark! The herald angels sing

"Glory to the newborn King!"

Love that song...

I don't know the exact words, but I love the tune to It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.

Other favorites:

O Little Town of Bethlehem

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

O Holy Night is pretty. It's out of my range. I like to hear a GOOD singer sing it.

Mary Did You Know - written by Mark Lowry

Mary did you know that your baby boy would some day walk on water?

Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?

Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?

This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?

Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?

Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?

And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.

Oh Mary did you know---

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again.

The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb---.

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?

Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?

Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?

This sleeping child you're holding is the great--I--- AM---.

My favorite has always been "Joy To The World" because it is such a joyous song. Also, I learned to play it long ago in piano class before I ever knew the words and even then it inspired me to feel a special warmth in my heart.

"Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King!"

I have a bit of a tear in my eye after reading the verses of other people's favorite songs here. Thank you so much for sharing. I had not heard some of those songs.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
