  1. All who have totally surrendered to Jesus as God in human flesh, risen from the dead, who have been born of the Holy Spirit and who follow God by walking in the Spirit, all of us will be gathered to God when we die and live with Him in eternity. I would be happy just being a doorkeeper or serving in a menial way like washing feet. Great men and women of God who have given their lives for Him should be sitting near the Lord. Psa 84:10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
  2. Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 1Th 1:10 ESV and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1Th 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, Praise God that He is our refuge and our strength.
  3. 1Ti 6:5 and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. 1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 1Ti 6:7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 1Ti 6:8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 1Ti 6:9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
  4. 1. You may not get a job that pays as well as you anticipate. 2. You may have overhead or a family to provide for. Most CPAs that I have known are in the middle income. 3. You are only a steward, a manager of the money the Lord is providing. Yes, you may work hard for it. As a Christian we are to give ourselves and all we have to the Lord, and He instructs us how to use it. That takes the worry off our backs. We simply put it where the Lord wants it.
  5. Have you totally surrendered all of your being to Christ as your Lord and Master. Do you intend to serve Him all you life. Have you presented your body to Him as a living sacrifice and do you renew your mind daily in the Word? Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
  6. We are declared righteous by our faith in the blood of Jesus as our purchase price. We become sinless when we see Jesus for we will be like Him.
  7. Psa 1:2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. I delight in the Psalms and in all of God's word. It reflects my Lord. It ministers to my heart, it gives me hope and it heals my spirit. His word gives life. From it we find our salvation. His Spirit uses the word as His vehicle. It is His two edged sword. Our Savior created by His word. His Name is the Word. To meditate on His word is to meditate on Him. How beautiful it is to sing His word in the Psalms.
  8. Adam knew Eve in a very personal way. We are to know God that way as well--intimately--He being in us and we being in Him. To know God intimately is to be born again. We know Scriptures by doing what they say and gaining understanding. Psa 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!
  9. It requires hating the old self who was selfish and self centered. In the 9th grade I wondered what kind of a Christian am I, that I would stare at a handicapped person, watch them fall down and not run to assist them? Where was my empathy and compassion?
  10. 1Co 1:25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1Co 1:26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 1Co 1:27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 1Co 1:28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 1Co 1:29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 1Co 1:30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 1Co 1:31 so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."
  11. Thanks for all the good ideas. When giving to people I know who are in need it is hard to think of ways to do it so they won't know who gave to them. People often resent the person who gave to them if they can't pay them back. They will turn against them. This is why people try the cheat the government or think they are entitled. It saves face or makes them feel they are in control. It could also be why communism doesn't work and why so many communist men become alcoholics. It causes people to loose their self respect if they don't receive the gift as from the Lord.
  12. 1Ti 4:10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. IT is very evident that limited atonement is false doctrine. However, if they believe it they will say it means all men who were chosen and predestined by God or the whole word means only the chosen. They can be worse than the Catholic church in twisting Scriptures to support their view.
  13. Here you are talking about the church. Paul would speak in the Hebrew Synagog before speaking to the church. Jesus was sent to the people of Israel. Paul alway honored that and spoke first to the Jews. In the church Jews and Gentiles are one, male and female are one, free and slave are one. That did not happen in the synagogs of the Hebrew people.
  14. The gentiles were not allowed to worship with the Jews unless they converted to Judism. The Jews still considered gentiles to be unclean. Jewish Christians met with Gentile believers where they became one in Christ. Paul always first preached in the Jewish Synagogs till he was kicked out, and then he took the Gospel to the Gentiles. In the beginning they had love feasts with their service. That is why they had the disputes about people getting there first and eating all the food, not leaving food for the widows and poor. It was like a church potluck or picnic. Afterward they would have hymns, prayers and preaching, often till late at night. When the Lord's Supper was instituted it was a Passover meal that was eaten before the elements of bread and wine were passed, so they kept on having an evening meal as Christ had done.. Yes, we do celebrate the resurrection by meeting on the 1st day of the week. 1Co 11:20 Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper. 1Co 11:21 For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry and another is drunk. It is not my custom to speak Hebrew. I will use the names of the week days that I am accustomed to. However, I respect your using the Hebrew names. It is not false doctrine in the church to use the name Saturday (OP). Nor is it false doctrine to worship on Saturday. It is simply my custom to worship on Sunday and Wednesday, and to treat every day as holy to the Lord. It is false doctrine, however, to believe that those who don't assemble to worship on Saturday have taken the mark of the beast and are going to hell, as some believe.
  15. Everyone knows that the Jews met on Saturday to worship. That was part of their covenant. So Paul would preach first to the Jews, and later on the first day he would preach to the Gentiles. The Church always met on the first day of the week, even if that was Saturday night. Act 20:7 On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight.
  16. Some of us do. I had friends taunt me and reject me when I came back to the Lord. When I worked there were people sitting around 3 tables on break, and two of those tables didn't even want to work with me. I had nothing against them, didn't talk about my faith unless asked, but it didn't matter. They spread false rumors against me and some checked out the things that were said and found they were false by asking others who had worked with me. So a few worked with me anyhow. It resulted in my working fewer hours than had I not been a Christian. 2Ti 3:12 ESV Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
  17. Jesus came the first time as the suffering servant. The Lamb of God. When He ascended into heaven our Father gave Him a name above every name that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. He will come again as the Lion of Judah, the conquering King.
  18. This has happened in the past. Sometimes acquaintances relay the message. One time we thought a member had passed who had been out of touch because of other circumstance and he came back.
  19. Thank You Miss Muffy. No guys mentioned praying together. Hubby and I had conversational prayer every night. He led. He usually prayed for the safety of our family and any particular needs I had, I usually prayed for sickness aches and pains and salvation. Then we prayed for friends. I perhaps miss this the most of our relationship. Of course, having his help in caring for the place and repairing stuff are things I also miss. as well as our rides together and going bird watching. We loved exploring dirt roads, logging roads and forrest service roads in the mountains. The peace, coolness, and haunting call of the Swainson's Thrush. And an occasional bear or herd of elk or deer. That lone Bambi investigating a noisy flying insect. Such precious moments we shared.
  20. Humility is submissive. It is honoring others as well and looking up to and valuing others. Pride would oppose others for the sake of argument. Pride fosters a rebellious self serving spirit.
  21. Sin is literally and archery term meaning to miss the mark. It is Greek and not Hebrew. From Word Study Dictionary of New Testament Words by Spiros Zodihates G264 ἁμαρτάνω hamartánō; fut. hamartḗsō, aor. hēmártēsa; 2d aor. hḗmarton. To sin, to miss a mark on the way, not to hit the mark. One who keeps missing the mark in his relationship to God is hamartōlós (G268), sinner. (I) To err, swerve from the truth, go wrong, used in an absolute sense in 1Co 15:34, meaning to beware lest one be drawn into errors pertaining to faith, of which the Apostle is speaking (Tit 3:11). (II) To err in action, in respect to a prescribed law, i.e., to commit errors, to do wrong, sin. (A) Generally, to sin, spoken of any sin, used in an absolute sense (Mat 27:4; Joh 5:14; Joh 8:11; Joh 9:2-3; Rom 2:12; Rom 3:23; Rom 5:12, Rom 5:14, Rom 5:16; Rom 6:15; 1Co 7:28, 1Co 7:36; Eph 4:26; 1Ti 5:20; Heb 3:17; Heb 10:26; 1Pe 2:20; 2Pe 2:4; 1Jn 1:10; 1Jn 2:1; 1Jn 3:6, 1Jn 3:8-9; 1Jn 5:16, 1Jn 5:18. In 1Jn 5:16, to sin a sin. Sept.: Exo 32:30; Lev 4:14, Lev 4:23, Lev 4:28). (B) With eis (G1519), unto, with the acc. to sin against anyone, to offend, wrong (Mat 18:15, Mat 18:21; Luk 15:18, Luk 15:21; Luk 17:3-4; Act 25:8; 1Co 6:18; 1Co 8:12; Sept.: Gen 20:6, Gen 20:9; Gen 43:9; 1Sa 2:25). (C) To "sin before someone" means to do evil in the sight of anyone, to sin against, to wrong (Luk 15:21; Sept.: Gen 39:9; Deu 1:41; Deu 20:18; 1Sa 7:6; 1Sa 12:23; 1Sa 14:33-34). See hamartía(G266), sin, which has many syn. listed; hamártēma(G265), an individual deed or sin; anamártētos (G361), without sin; proamartánō(G4258), to sin previously. Deriv.: amártēma (G265), sin; hamartía (G266), sin, sinful; hamartōlós (G268), a sinner; anamártētos (G361), without sin; proamartánō (G4258), to sin previously.
  22. Most larger congregations have singles groups. Ours has one for those under 25 and one for 25-40.
  23. This is a never-ending dispute. Omegaman has posted a list of Scriptures for and against that is very good. I concluded that the weak, overscrulous, and fearful need to be reassured that God keeps us. However those who are unrepentant, who are presumptuous and think that they can keep on sinning and God will still save them, the backslidden and those who take their salvation for granted need to hear that God will not always strive with man and they are in danger of falling. Also, the self righteous need to learn they have fallen away from grace. However, those who are walking in the Spirit and bearing fruit are assured that God is keeping them to the end. The parable of the sower in Luke 8 speaks of some who hear the word but satan snatches it away from them before they can believe and be saved. It speaks of others who hear the word with gladness but when trials come they fall away. They were not rooted deep in God's word or their faith was not genuine and their commitment was not unconditional. It also speaks of some whose faith doesn't ripen because it is choked out by the cares and busyness of this world. This is a warning to keep our priorities straight and love God with all our hearts, souls strength and might. He needs to be first and central to our lives.
  24. I asked my pastor that question and he gave me the same answer that God had given me. So I think it is true. It is like food laws. It may be fine for you but it may cause someone else to stumble. So if you are convinced it is OK for you, you are free to listen to it (but not too loud and go deaf). However, it might be best to do it by yourself. Some people used to do drugs and drink to rock and it brings back the old life to them. It is wrong for them. So you should avoid it around those people who came out of that life. Like you I believe that it is the lyrics that makes the difference. This is the Scripture that God gave me. Rom 14:13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. Rom 14:14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. Rom 14:15 For if your brother is grieved by what you eat (listen to), you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. Rom 14:16 So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Rom 14:18 Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. Rom 14:19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. Rom 14:20 Do not, for the sake of food (music), destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for anyone to make another stumble by what he eats (listens to). Rom 14:21 It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble. Rom 14:22 The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. Rom 14:23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats (listens), because the eating (listening) is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin. The answer here is to be fully convinced in your own mind, because if you doubt it is sin to do it.
