This is exactly why I cannot touch ANY alcohol. To me, it's sin, whether I drink one glass of wine or a shot of Jack Daniels.

Different things to different people. And what does the Scripture say about causing a brother/sister to sin doing something you don't think is sin? (Romans 14:1-23, specifically verses 13-23) When I go to Shabbat dinner, they know I have problems with wine and serve me grape juice because they love me and don't want to see me sin or to HELP me sin.

If I come to your house, you had better not be serving me alcohol.

why? what makes one alcoholic beverage any better or worse than the next? i mean we've been arguing for how many pages now about whether or not it is a sin to touch alcohol, and most people agree that it is not. now is it gonna turn into a debate of what types of alcohol are sins? :emot-hug:

biblically we are to abstain from intoxication.

if it's ok to have a glass of wine, it's ok to have a rum and coke. if mixed properly, the alcohol content of each is the same.

As far as I know it doesn't take a whole lot of rum to get yourself off to a bad place. It's called hard liquor for a reason.

but again, the key is if it is properly mixed... not much rum should go in a glass of cola. my true preference of beverage is either a strawberry daquiri made with... what goes in a daquiri? rum or vodka? i forget... or chambord with pineapple juice.

a standard serving is:

* A 12-ounce can or bottle of regular beer

* A 5-ounce glass of dinner wine

* A shot (one and one-half ounces) of 80 proof liquor or spirits such as vodka, tequila, or rum either straight or in a mixed drink.

I never touch alcohol either but, even though I wish it was because I am ultra pious, it's because I just don't like it and don't need it. I think it's okay for someone else to have a drink or two if they wish but I will NOT suffer a drunk anywhere near me. Nothing is more disgusting. :emot-hug:

He's serious unfortunately

Sorry poke but that sounds really judgemental.

I perfer CC and 7up myself. It's not what kind of alcohol you drink, it's about intoxication.

I'm sorry.

I just don't see a mature Christian saying things like that. It bugs me. If I'm wrong, tell me. I think I'd gasp if I heard a pastor say something like that. I'd only expect to hear it from a college student.

I apologize for being judgemental, though. It's a sin I seriously struggle with day-to-day. Forgive me?

yes we forgive you.

Here are some interesting things from "About.com".

These are not "Biblical" reasons to avoid alcoholic beverages. They are, moral reasons. Should a Christian have two or three beers with friends at the bar, then drive home... when there are so many other beverages available?

Total Fatalities / Fatality Rates

250,000 people have died in alcohol related accidents in the past 10 years.

Presently 25,000 people are killed each year in alcohol related accidents.

500 people are killed each week in alcohol related accidents.

71 people are killed each day in alcohol related accidents.

One American life is lost every 20 minutes in alcohol related auto crashes.

It is estimated that one out of every two Americans will be involved in an alcohol related accident in his or her lifetime.

In 1994, New Hampshire had 119 total highway fatalities, 42 were alcohol related (or 35.3% of the total). New Hampshire leads the nation with one of the lowest percentages of alcohol related fatalities.

Cause of Death

Alcohol related crashes are the leading cause of death for young Americans, between the ages of 16 and 24 years old.

For all Americans between 5 and 35 years of age, motor vehicle accidents are the number one cause of death. Over 50% of these accidents are caused by alcohol impaired drivers.

Recent Alcohol-Involvement

Over 50% of all fatal highway crashes involving two or more cars are alcohol related.

Over 65% of all fatal single car crashes are alcohol related.

Over 36% percent of all adult pedestrian accidents are alcohol related.

80% of all fatal alcohol related auto crashes occur between 8 pm and 8 am.

36% of all adult pedestrian accidents involve an intoxicated pedestrian.

Injury Crashes / Collisions

Every year, 708,000 persons are injured in alcohol related crashes; 74, 000 of those people suffer serious injuries.

About 2,000 people are hurt each day in alcohol related accidents.

Two million alcohol impaired driving collisions occur each year.

Arrest / Characteristics of Alcohol Impaired Drivers

Of every 200 to 2,000 alcohol impaired drivers on the road, only one is arrested. Therefore, the probability of getting caught is slim. Of those who are caught, very few receive a serious penalty.

The average alcohol impaired driver arrested on the highway has a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .20%, double the level for presumed intoxication in most states; that is 14 drinks of 86% proof liquor (or 14 beers) in 4 hours for a 180 lb. man.

Between 7 pm and 3 am on weekends, 10% of all drivers are legally impaired, in some parts of the country.

Most Americans drink alcohol. Over 80% admit to driving after drinking. Relatively few problem drinkers, about 7% of the driving population, account for over 66% of all alcohol related fatal accidents.

When drinkers are at the presumed level of intoxication, the risk of causing an accident is six times greater than for non-drinking drivers.

Youth

Although persons between 16 and 24 years old comprise only 20% of the total licensed population, and 20% of the total vehicle miles traveled in this country by all licensed drivers, they cause 42 percent of all fatal atcohol related crashes.

Economic/Societal Cost

According to a recent Allstate Insurance Company study, alcohol impaired drivers are estimated to cost American taxpayers $21 - $24 billion dollars per year.

National Geographic recently stated that alcohol abuse costs American society $136 billion and 65,000 lives annually.

Miscellaneous

Admittedly, the United States has one of the safest highway systems in the world, due in part to design characteristics, guard rails, highway markings and signs. We have relatively few fatalities per 100-million miles driven. But the portion of our accidents involving alcohol is among the highest in the world.

An accident by an alcohol impaired driver is the most frequently committed violent crime in the United States today.

Other alcohol-related statistics show the involvement of alcohol in many non-driving aspects:

40% of all suicide attempts are alcohol-related

54% of all violent crimes are alcohol-related

60% of all emergency room admissions are alcohol-related

80% of all domestic disputes are alcohol-related

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
