Forgiveness

Are we to forgive people who aren't sorry for what they've done?

Wow. This is going to be a challenge for me. This person really betrayed my trust and has not even apologized to me.

Us forgiving another is for our own sake and not really for them. Our Father....Forgives us our trespasses, AS WE forgive those who trespass against us.

But don't we have to be sorry in order for our Father to forgive us?

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. Matthew 5:44

If I don't forgive them, even those who don't ask my forgiveness, will God forgive me when I pray and forget to confess a sin I've committed. Remember in Matthew 6, God is your Heavenly Father if you forgive others, but if you don't forgive others, He is a Father who won't forgive your trepasses I don't think it makes a bit of different if they ask or not.

Matthew 6:14-15

14) For if ye forgive men their trepasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15) But if ye forgive not men their trepasses, neither will your Father forgive your trepasses.

Also remember we are called to Love,in the KJV love is also called charity.

I Corinthians 13:4-7

4) Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not: charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.

5) Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil:

6) Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7) Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

I really don't see any room here in holding a grudge.

Or'el you might also have a look at Romans 12:19-21

19) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay saith the Lord.

20) Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him: if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

21) Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Please forgive my poor english but what would be gooder than forgiving someone to overcome their evil.

Forgiveness does not negate consequences.

And restoring trust is the job of the offender, not you to swallow hook line and sinker.

Forgiveness is letting go of your right to vengeance. Putting yourself in the place to risk betrayal again is between you and the Lord - sometimes it convicts the person, sometimes it's nothing but unwise. You need to hear from the Lord on this.

Is not the question how many time do I forgive my brother and the answer 77x7?

I would imagine that any church woman who works in a kitchen can find conflict over some issue with the dining room staff. I ran into it with money from a dinner. I must admit the manner in which I was 'told' by the woman that she would take the receipts threw me a curve but I was not told that this person was replacing the regular treasurer and I refused to give to someone unauthorized. ~~~~~~Well after time I knew God wanted that apology and I had no rest until I did.

I believe the apology is what God demands of us (It was in hindsight 'stupid and childish') to free us of the burden of guilt regardless of how many times we are wronged and we wrong someone else. That little 'spiteful' act can plaque one needlessly, and stand between God and us in prayer. How can we be forgiven if we do not forgive ? How can we ask of God when we don not His will ? Wronged or the one doing the wrong to another - no matter how trivial. It frees us and the other individual of guilt. The words "I'm sorry" are small but bring so much comfort and peace and a smile to the Father's face.
