Hi everyone. I have a question that I really need to find the answer to and that is does the bible teach eternal non existence as a final punishment or eternal torment?

It seems as if you can sort of interpret the bible as either. But then again maybe you can't.

Please enlighten me with your knowledge!

Thanks

Hell is a very real place and it is a place of eternal torment for those who reject the Lord Jesus.

Luke 16:19-31

Mark 9:43-48

Revelation 20:10-15

There is nowhere in the Bible that speaks of a place of non-existence after death that I have ever seen.

I hope to enlighten you with His words, not my intelligence.

Three times in Mark 9 we read:

"
Their worm does not die

And the fire is not quenched.
"

This is from Isaiah 66:24

And they shall go forth and look

Upon the corpses of the men

Who have transgressed against Me.

For their worm does not die,

And their fire is not quenched.

They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.

We also read in 2 Peter 12:17, when speaking about false teachers:

"
These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
"

And in Jude 1:12-13

"
These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
"

Revelation 20:10 speaks of the Lake of Fire and Brimstone

"
The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
"

Than we read more about who will join them in Revelation 20:14-15

"
Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
"

As always, look the verses up and read them in context for a better understanding.

"Their worm does not die..."
"but I am a worm, and no man..."

Te soul without God is refered to in the Bible as a worm, it is just an empty soul with nothing good about it.

"...the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee." -multitudes in hell.

This is me, not Scripture, when hell is casted into the lake of fire, I think that that means, in the end, souls with their ressurected bodies will be cast into the magma of the Earth's core, how much torment would that be, but that is just me, I want to make that crystal.

I believe this should answer your question, Ervin....

Matt 25:41 "Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels ; 42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me [nothing] to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.' 44 "Then they themselves also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?' 45 "Then He will answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' 46 " And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Thank you very much everyone. I still have to ask what about the verses that say that wages of sin is death and all this other stuff that Jehovah's witnesses talk about?

Thanks

That verse is a genuine part of the Bible (Ro 6:23). Yes, we have all sinned, and therefore fallen from the state of perfection required, and the only way back is through Jesus Christ. emot-hug.gif

Beware:

The Jehovah's witnesses, rewrote the Bible, making their own, because they could not stand the Truth found in the ones that have been around for a few hundred years.

Spirits cannot die.

Since angels are just spirits they cannot be redeemed. That's why their belief in Christ makes no difference about their eternal destination once the eternal spirits sin.

Humanity can be redeemed because we can die in the flesh. Human beings are not just flesh. We have spirits in our bodies. When the bodies of unbelievers are burned up in the lake of fire (the second death) their spirits will continue on in that place. And from Luke 16:19-31 we can deduce spirits can feel pain. So, yes there is an eternal condemnation for unbelieving spirits and fallen angelic spirits. The Bible says so.

Beware the Jehovah's Witnesses. They teach a false Jesus.

Galatians 1:8-9 (NASB95)

8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!

9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!

2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (NASB95)

3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.

4 For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
