What is masculine or feminine clothing is constantly changing. What is considered feminine isn't the same today as it was in 1960, 1860, or in biblical times.

Even what is considered "modest" dress changes with the times.

Since there are no specific provisions in the Bible for what we should wear, saying that women shouldn't wear pants isn't biblical.

there is specific... to dress modestly and not try to draw attention to their bodies but attention to God Who 'IS' dwelling in them!

Correct. My point is that the Bible speaks in general terms about dressing modestly, rather than saying, for example, "no pants for women," "dresses must be 3 inches below the knee," etc.

Well that's a good question...in the 1800's...when women dressed in long skirts, they rode in what was called a side saddle...seriously...so that their skirts would still cover them

Today, that is not the case...one leg on either side...of course, it is hard to ride a horse when you are too busy doing inventory in the kitchen or dusting for the 2nd time that day

I work with a Jehovah's Witness and we were talking about this issue today. She wears leggings and trousers for work but always wears a skirt or dress for JW meetings or when they go knocking on doors or doing Bible studies.

I didn't really understand why it was a rule to wear skirts at meetings because of not having women dress like men but that it was ok in other situations. I thought it would be one or the other. Her explanation was that wearing skirts for the meetings was a sign of respect but couldn't really explain.

I personally am trying to wear skirts more often as I feel more feminine and it seems to make me behave in a more ladylike manner. Evenings and weekends I am generally wearing a skirt (even for gardening after watching Homestead Blessings!) but not for work so far but this (and growing my hair) are both things that I have been praying on lately.

No, men don't look effeminate in a dress - they look dorky.

As for the ones who try to make themselves out to be women (cross-dressers and transvestites), their problem is something deeper than attire, and changing clothes won't fix that.

Well,I guess the women of today could go back to the 1800's but they had other issues.They would pass out alot from the tight corsets.

The Amish women would not argue with the position of women only wearing skirts and dresses.The Amish are also legalistic so most of us would not except their beliefs.
