Did Jesus Christ go to hell between His death and resurrection?

Yes I think He did.  For on the day of Pentecost, Peter spoke of this in Acts 2:25-36 stating that it was a fulfillment of Psalms 16:10.  IMO Peter also refers to this in I Peter 3:18-19 and maybe I Peter 4:6 although I not really sure about this last reference.

yes he did, but the word translated hell there is basically only referring to the grave

He went into the heart of the earth, to a place called paradise, which was across from hell.  There was a great gulf between the two places.  Jesus took those who were in paradise to heaven, and those who were in hell remain there awaiting the final judgment.  Today, when a Christian dies their soul immediately goes to heaven, but before Calvary, it went to paradise.

i imagine the presence of the Lamb of God in the realm of spiritual death blasted apart death's finality.

 

i don't believe Christ could have defeated death without descending to where those who are spiritually dead reside.

 

He became sin and descended where we would not have to go through faith in His sacrifice.

If by the question you mean some sort of fiery place of torment where lost souls reside, then the answer is no.  He died, was in the grave (translated as that) for three complete 24 hour periods by our reckoning, and then the Father raised him again. That's pretty straightforward and what the bible teaches without the dramatic embellishments.

Its hard to imagine Jesus in hell, If I'm not mistaken hell is the complete absence of God, his presence is not there. However, just before Jesus died he cried "lord, lord, why have you forsaken me?" So, either God couldn't bear to witness his sons final moments, or, he knew that Jesus would have to go to hell and be apart from God.

 

Jesus going to hell paints a much more tragic picture. Jesus going to heaven paints a much more peaceful picture.

The work of salvation was completely finished when Christ died. “When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” (John 19:30). His suffering in our place was completed. His soul/spirit went to the paradise side of hades. Jesus did not go to the torments of hell. Jesus’ suffering ended the moment He died. The payment for sin was paid. He then awaited the resurrection of His body and His return to glory in His ascension.

I've also heard the teaching that during that time He ascended to The Mercy Seat In Heaven and Sprinkled it with His Own Blood as The Final Sacrifice...Preparing The Way For us...As He Is Our Great High Priest...There is alot more to it...I'm going by memory of a teaching I have heard...and can't find all the scriptures...

Their is a study on what the difference is between hell and shoel/hades.Some people think that Jesus went to "hell" to further be punished for our sins.That is not Biblical.Jesus did not go to hell.Jesus went to shoel/hades.Their is difference.
