The parable of the rich man and Lazuras (Luke 15) shows that there was a great gulf that seperated hell and paradise (Abraham's bosom).  As the rich man woke up in hell and Lazurus the beggar woke up being comforted in Abraham's bosom.  Before Christ death, burial and resurrection the saints were held in prison by satan.  But the saints were not in hell across the gulf where the rich man found himself in the flames begging for just one drop of water.  Instead the saints were held captive by Satan in paradise in Abraham's bosom.  But according to scripture (Ephesians 4) after Christ death and burial Jesus did descend (went down) into the heart of the earth and preached to those in prison.  While Jesus was still on the cross remember the theif whom Jesus said to him that this day he would be with him in paradise (Abraham's bosom) This was were Jesus descended and went to along with the theif on the cross.  But on the third day Jesus ascended (came up) taking the captive (saints) with him that had been held prisoner by Satan since their death.  But Jesus defeated Satan in his resurrection as death could not hold him captive (prisoner in paridise by Satan and Jesus now has the key(s) to death,- hell - and -- the grave.  Jesus did not descend (go down) into hell's flames that was across the gulf that seperated Abraham's bosom (paradise) from hell.  As those who were in hell could not cross over into paradise and the saints being held prisoner in paradise could not cross the gulf into hell.  So Jesus did not descend into hell but he did descend down to paradise.  Today paradise is in heaven no longer under Satan's power or authority.

What do you think?

physical death - spiritual death - second death

by His death, burial, and resurrection, Christ defeated death, the grave, and hell.

Heb 2:14  Since then the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise partook of the same; that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death (that is, the Devil),
Heb 2:15  and deliver those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

i imagine the presence of the Lamb of God in the realm of spiritual death blasted apart death's finality.

i don't believe Christ could have defeated death without descending to where those who are spiritually dead reside.

He became sin and descended where we would not have to go through faith in His sacrifice.

Their is a study on what the difference is between hell and shoel/hades.Some people think that Jesus went to "hell" to further be punished for our sins. That is not Biblical.Jesus did not go to hell.Jesus went to shoel/hades.Their is difference.

i know the study bopeep.  and He couldn't have gone to hell to be punished for our sins, because He became sin for us.

i am by no means trying to add to scripture in my answer.

if Christ only went to the Paradise side, then how do we then explain this?

1Pe 3:18  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
1Pe 3:19  By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

I heard that Christ went to the lands that did not know about him so that those poor souls did not go to hell.  It is not fair that someone go to hell because they lived in a primitive society with no knowledge.

As you know from the parable of the rich man and the poor man their was a great gulf.*See Openly Curious post.On one side was Paradise(the believers) and the other was Sheol/hades(the unbelievers). The unbelievers could see those in paradise and how wonderful it was. When Jesus ascended to heaven,He took the occupants of paradise with Him.Ephesians 4:8-10

hi coheir

Paul spoke of Paradise after Christ's ascension.

Before Christ's ascenscion, Paradise was in the earth.

ok another Q

Bible says when Christ returns the dead in Christ will rise first. this makes one think they will rise from the earth or ground; but if they are in paradise which is up near heaven

I never did get figured out right ??????????

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
