Go ahead and pick apart.   The point is that I gave the example because I knew that without the example my words could be taken wrong.   So you decide to spin my comments the wrong way anyway.  You purposely and knowingly accused me falsely of something I didn't intend.  Yeah, so go ahead and try to pick it apart.

 

 

 

 

No.   It would cross the line into a lie if the parents attempt to convince a child that Santa is real after the child has figured out that Santa isn't real.  If they try to perpetuate the Santa myth at the point when it is time to stop, then it crosses the line.

 

My Dad once tried to dress up as a monster to have a little fun with me when I was a kid. Once I figured out it was him, the jig was up and he had to stop.  Had he continued and endeavored to convince me that he really was who he was portraying and intentionally convinced me of that, then it would have been an act of deception.

 

Santa Claus and Rudolph are make believe and children and parents play along because it's fun.  That's it.

''Jig' is a very old term for a lively dance, but in Elizabethan times the word became slang for a practical joke or a trick'. From a site which explains old sayings.

 

I work in computers. It was a tradition that when a newbie would start work in the computer room, they were told at some point that the phone company had to clean the phone lines. They blow the dust out of the phone lines. Because some dust might come thru the phones hand set, all of the phone hand sets in the computer room had to be put in plastic bags so dust would not get into the computer room. Of course that assignment would fall on the newbie.

 

Some fell for it, and we would come in the next day to find all of the phones hand sets neatly tied in baggies. Others wouldn't fall for the joke so 'the jig was up'.

It's not even Thanksgiving yet, and the annual "Christmas is Evil" thread has started . . . :whistling::laugh:

 

So I'll have a go:

 

I knew Santa, the Easter bunny, and all that was a myth when I was a kid, but the holidays were still fun. As much fun as you can have growing up in an essentially non-religious household anyway. I didn't go off the deep end when I figured it out that Santa, etc. were not real. I suppose part of that was noticing the same things Otherone mentioned.

 

Walla.....Are you saying that this topic happens every year in here?  I did not suspect that one, but now I see attraction after reading most of the posts.  I do agree with your memory of it.  And the same goes for Otherone's comment.  This is still interesting tho.  Today this is my safe room or "fallout shelter" from the "nuclear option" in the Senate.  It is a blessing to be among fellow believers.  :mgbowtie:

I hope that whatever stand one takes on the "Santa" issue, Jesus would always be the focus of Christmas! He alone is worthy of worship and praise.

sorry dude never brought me the kind of things he brought to those kids down the road.......   they got spankings all the time and I never needed them.....   so I thought Santa was a rat.......   first time I cursed in front of my mother was about that situation.....   called him a sob in front of mom, and after she sneaked off and laughed for a bit to herself she came back, washed my mouth out and told me all about the deception and where the presents really came from......   Lordy, I do hate that taste of lye soap.  special made by the loving hands of a really cool grandmother for just such occasions.   Must have been about five years old.

This thread has been At times alot of fun....and at times it's been a battle ground..

 

Discussion is healthy, BUT treating each other with contempt ISN"T.

 

How about treating each other with some respect and compassion....

not one of us is gonna agree about anything all the time, thats a given

BUT it's how we go about disagreeing thats important!

WE all bring something different to the table,thats the wonderful thing about a discussion,hurting one another has no merit at all.

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
