My question is 'what do you mean by His people'.

His people are Israel, and His people are the church/Christians.

Most of Israel is under the Mosaic covenant, which is a bilateral covenant.

The church/Christians/Jews and Gentile who believe on Jesus are under the New Covenant, which is a unilateral covenant.

A unilateral covenant means one person is responsible for fulfilling all, and a bilateral covenant is when one person promises certain things contingent on the other people involved fulfilling their responsibilities under the covenant.

The Mosaic covenant had punishments for Israels failure to fulfill their obligations.

The New Covenant does not have punishments since Jesus died for the sins. In the New Testament, God is called the Father, and believers who are under the New Covenant are called the sons of God/children. When a child does wrong, a good Father will discipline. Discipline is to teach.

Punish / discipline is the same thing.  And you answered your own question :P

Punish and discipline are not the same thing.

Discipline is for the purpose of training. Punishment is a legal term, for being found guilty. In the Mosaic covenant, to violate some of the laws results in a penalty, which is the punishment. Believer in Jesus are called disciples, which means a learner of Jesus.  Because believers are trained up in love, there is no fear of punishment.

The best verses I can think of are the following:

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

Hebrews 12:11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

Adding definitions of the Greek words.

Galatians 6:7-10

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

It is apparent that we are reaping what we sowed. It is not God punishing us for what we did. It may look that way because He is allowing the fruit of our work to prevail, come to light. All God is doing is what scripture tells us.

All actions have consequences and if the action is against God's will for you or a nation he will punish for disobedience.

Yes God chastises His own.

Hebrews 12:5,6

"And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons;

My son do not despise the chastening of the Lord,

Nor  be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;

For who the Lord loves He chastens,

And scourges every son whom He receives"

Poverbs3:12 for whom the Lord loves, He corrects

Just as a father the son in whom he delights

God must love me, not only because the bible tells me so,

but also because I have received and continmue to receive the chastening of the Lord.

But God is also very gentle when he chastens, what I mean by that is that He will show you in a way that you will be able to receive, without letting your pride come in the way to receive.

Likewise like Him we are to be gentle as servanrs of God.

2 timothy 2:24 And a servant of the lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,

in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant these repentance, so that they may know the truth

and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Yes he did. Look at when the children of Israel went to the Wilderness because they refused to go into the promise land.

Does God punish his people who did wrong? Each of my friend has a different idea on this subject. One of them said God never punishes anyone but let people realize his fault by himseld and become to regret. Is it real?

I quote from Ezekiel on this one.   The scripture is a two edged sword, confirming God's justice on one hand and mercy toward the righteous on the other.   Read and weep.  Bold faced type is mine.

"Because you disheartened the righteous with falsehood when I did not cause him grief, but have encouraged the wicked not to turn from his wicked way and preserve his life..."

- Ezekiel 13:22

This is a heavy line.  It justifies judgment of the wicked in terms of death and in the larger context of the chapter promises deliverance to the righteous by God's own hand.   It strongly suggests that not all grief comes from God.   Those who live in the secular culture of America today know exactly what I'm referring to.

IF GOD DOES NOT JUDGE AMERICA, HE WILL HAVE TO APOLOGIZE TO SODOM AND GOMORRAH.

and that's just me, hollering from the choir loft...

I don't think God punishes anyone. He's very forgiving and understanding.

You fail to understand that people choose which life they want to live.  God forewarns everyone in His word and we have a whole lifetime to make our decision.  You also forget that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for our sins, to take our rightful place for what we did against Him.  To say that God will just forgive people because He understands is like a slap in the face to Jesus.  He sent His Son for a reason.  There is no other way to God but through His Son, period.

Now, if you are talking about life's challenges, we all have them.  We all make mistakes, and we all loose a little because of our choices.  This is not God punishing us for our mistakes, but how our choices direct our future.  Bad choices create bad results.  If this were not true, then nobody would have a reason to walk in His will.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
