I have told this many times. I am sure it may vary a bit since I am getting old and my memory is not what it used to be...

 

In the 1970's a drug addict who fried his brain on powerful drugs, who had lost his job his family his home wandered in from the street one Sunday to Calvary Chapel which was in the middle of service... not knowing what to do he sat down in the middle aisle as Pastor Chuck preached. The guy was dirty, smelly, burnt out and probably still high from the night before. He didn't know what to do about his life he didn't know where to go he just found himself drawn somehow to the Church. People took notice of the man as one of the ushers rose from his seat to deal with this interruption as Chuck preached on without breaking stride. But instead of ushering the man out of the sanctuary... he sat down right next to him. And the Church service continued without a hitch.

 

I do not know, but I have always suspected that man was Pastor Mike MacIntosh who came to Christ and went to work and got trained at Calvary Chapel and planted the Horizon Christian Fellowship Churches in San Diego... who described his life almost exactly like that man who sat on the floor in Church. Pastor Mike got his mind back (which he credits as a miracle) and he got his wife and children back.

 

So... thankfully not everyone curls their nose at tattoo artists etc.

While I respect the believes of others, I do not see any Bible basses that says having a beard is wrong. While you would not attend a church that had a pastor with long hair or allowed women in pants. I would not attend a church that made the rule that having a beard is wrong. Not because I am a fan of beards, but because I think that such a teaching is not Biblical. So you see, we are not so different. As you choice to follow what you believe to be Biblical just as I do.

 

 

I'm not understanding the prohibition against facial hair on a man either.  We know Jesus Himself had a beard so how could it be wrong?  He can do no wrong because He's God.

Hermits chose poverty for spiritual reasons, and ending up with long hair, beard, old stained clothes, etc.  

Yet they were most easily accepted and listened to by the poor and broken - many were saved.

That is completely irrelevant to whether or not it is a shame for a man to have long hair.  The text in 1 Corinthians says that it is. 

 

but yet, as has been pointed out, the nazerites had long hair, and even in NT times, it is indicated that John the baptist was a member of this order. Now earlier, I may have been jerking your chain, but you can't take Paul saying it is a shame for men to have long hair as a blanket rule against long hair, because then you have a contradiction in scripture, as nazerites were set apart, BY GOD, and one of the requirements was for them to have long hair. God would not order people who were set apart just for him-do something that would shame Him. That is an impossibility. So that means one of 3 things, first what Paul said wasn't a blanket rule, that it only applied to certain people, which theres no text to suggest that, second. that this was a little bit of Pauls own personal opinion, as opposed to Biblical law. or more likely, that your misunderstanding scripture? I mean, in the verse before that says that a woman has to have her head covered or she can't pray to God? yet I don't see you pushing for women to wear hijabs in church. In that chapter, Paul is berating the corinthians for being divisive, and I think it is more likely he is "mocking" some of the things that the church is dividing over so to speak.

it doesnt come right out and say it, it is indicated, and many Bible scholars agree that he was a nazerite, mostly by John the baptists diet. (luke 1:15)

 

as far as new testament, the only thing talking about length of hair, is the passage in corinthians, which could either be Paul mocking the corinthians for being devisive over hair, or his own personal opinion, like Ive already stated. It very well could have just been the culture of the day for women to have long hair and men to have short, and Paul was just speaking to that, and not of whether or not it was a requirement either way.

 

So the case for men not to have long hair in the new testament is weak, and there is no case for it either way in the old testament. Yet, were still arguing about it 10 pages later?

There is no evidence John the Baptist was under a Nazarite vow....

I would not even consider attending a church where the Pastor had long hair ...

 

I suppose Jesus always had his hair trimmed short and a clean shaven face. 

 

That is completely irrelevant to whether or not it is a shame for a man to have long hair.  The text in 1 Corinthians says that it is. 

 

1 Cor 6:19-20 is about sexual immorality. It has nothing to do with appearances.

1 Cor 11:2-16 is about having correct propriety in worship (between man and woman, for that time and culture).

 

Unless you are referring to some other 1 Corinthians scripture, then I apologize for not realizing that.

The law is one, but there are parts of the law that were never intended to continue forever.  It would be like if the U.S. passed a law that had temporary provisions that expire after a certain amount of time, while others continue.  If you look at that monstrosity known as Obamacare, there are many things in that law like that, where they are one way for a time, and change down the road.  In the law of Moses, it was set up where there were 3 types of laws:  1  Laws of separation  2.  Laws pertaining to the office of the Levitical Priesthood  3.  Moral laws.  The first two were only to continue until the cross, but the moral laws don't change.  God does not change, so what he hated before, he still hates.  I stand by what I said about why I follow part of the law and not the entire law.  I would also point out that most likely, you hold to part of the law, whether you acknowledge it or not.  I would imagine you would be opposed to adultery and theft, which are wrong because the law of Moses says they are wrong.  I would imagine you would be against messing with a OUIJA board, as we are told in the Old Testament not to communicate with the dead.  I would also venture to say that you are probably someone who would oppose polygamy, even though there is nothing in scripture that outright forbids the practice in the Old Testament or the New Testament. 

 

Everything you have said is private opinion and not scriptural.

 

Scripture never, ever grouped the Mosaic commands into those three groups. (As a matter of fact, many laws would cross all three boundaries).

 

The Mosaic covenant was given to the children of Israel, for all generations. As long as the Jewish people exist, the children are born obligated to the Mosaic covenant for their entire lives. The only thing which can release them from that obligation before God, is accepting Jesus as Messiah, Lord and Savior. He fulfilled the Mosaic law for those who believe, freeing them to accept the New Covenant. So, the Mosaic covenant is still in existence, and it is a violation of the Mosaic covenant to pick and choose which laws to observe.

 

According to scripture, you are violating the Mosaic law by picking and choosing, which is taking away laws.

 

Under the New Covenant, all scripture is good for teaching and doctrine, which would mean the OT and Mosaic law is good for teaching. If you read the Mosaic law and learn something about Gods desires, and apply it to your life, then the scripture in light of the New Covenant is being used properly. But if you apply some of the Mosaic law to your life, picking and choosing which ones you think should apply, you are violating the Mosaic covenant by adding to or taking away from the 613 laws.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
