And, 'if she wishes to learn anything, let her ask her husband at home, it is improper for a woman to speak in church.'

I heard they were separated in the congregation, women on one side and men on the other.  They would yell, or loudly wisper or whatever to their husbands across the room and it had something to do with their lack of education.

Just old wives tales.  Since no contemporary Christian was an eye-witness, no one knows if any of the above allegations are true. Just disregard conjecture. Chances are that there were more orderly meetings then than there are now in some churches,  because the apostles were still alive, and their influence was very powerful. There was some disorder at Corinth which was addressed and put to rest, so far as we know.  But these allegations are just stories concocted to suggest that the Bible is like any other storybook.

Can of worms or not, Thanks for trusting us with your question.  As long as the verse is not being challenged, I see no issue with discussing it.  GBU

Ever since I was 10 years old I wanted to be a husband and have a beautiful relationship.  I became a hopeless romantic. I loved women to the point of worship.  I was a wandering incomplete person looking for the one who could complete me.  After 20+ years of trying to figure it out I sought help.  My quest brought me to Christ who is truly what I was looking for all that time in a woman.

How is this relevant to the topic?

Having become a Christian I began to study the word of God specifically for what it said about husbands and wives.  In my Christian adolescents I faltered a lot in trial and error seeking to apply the scriptures to my ailing marriage.  It failed.  I would not give up.  I studied harder.  I prayed harder.  I sought understanding with all of my might.

Today I have a strong marriage that is rooted in scripture.  She is obedient to my command.  I rule by example.  I am far from perfect and at times I can be froward, harsh, critical and mildly abusive.  I confess when I am wrong and ask forgiveness.  She is the happiest she has ever been in her life and is becomming more productive everyday.  Together we are building a home based business that will eventually allow me to stay home and spend more time together raising our family.

In the process of learning how to rule my house I studied the biblical roles of husband and wife.  Scriptures like this one came up as part of the whole counsel of God concerning women.  I learned through practice that I can trust God to correct the disobedient wife of a husband who is in good standing with him and by good standing I mean one who though he fails and sins gets back up and seeks the Lords face through the shame of having fallen by some manifestation of self.

I am still learning.

The greatest respect I earned from her is by taking her sin against me and teaching her about godly sorrow that brought her to repentance.  Teaching her about open rebuke and reproof that leads to giving instruction on how to prove oneself again and be redeemed through the power of the Spirit of God working in us.

One day 5 women will grab a hold of one man to take his name so they can take away their reproach.  The reason I believe will have a lot to do with finding out when Christ begins his reign that they were commanded to be under obedience but have been subtly convinced that they are equal in all things able to do what they want when they want.

It is a shame for a woman to usurp the authority  of a man.  Soon we will see God correct this and many errors including men who, like myself, have fallen short of the true mark of love for a wife and been selfish and self-seeking disguised as benevolence though manifestested as lording over rather than leading by example.

I am still exercising myself daily toward this end.  Peace.

Pamelasv, is there anywhere else in Scripture or otherwise that you ever heard or saw or read that Yahweh's instructions are called anything like "a can of worms" ? ... instead of "Perfect" ?

The can of worm means arguments about womwn bring silent  in churches. Arguments by human beings.  I know what you are saying, but not everyone understands everything in the bible.

What do think  Paul mean exactley when he said, 'A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.' 1 Timothy 2:11

I have heard the explanation of something unique happening in the culture over there?  I don't remember exactly what is was.

This pertains to what we call, "the household code"   and is talking about the relationship of a wife to her husband.    In the ancient near east women were typically not schooled.  They learned how to manage a home and were trained by their mothers.

School was, at that time, for the  men only.  So, it would be necessary for a wife to receive education and knowledge from her husband at home.  It is NOT diminishing women as some feminists would have us believe.   It simply reflects the realities for women in that day and age.  And to be clear, the bible is not saying women should not be educated.  It is simply addressing the cultural realities contemporary to it.

But much is lost when we don't understand the cultural milieu the Bible was written in and that the Bible does not circumvent that ancient culture.  To the contrary, the Bible reflects the culture of that time period and uses it as a means of communicating truth.

Ezra is right.  There is no evidence of that claim.   It's one of those things I refer to as, "Christian oral tradition."   It is on par with the myth that the high priest went into the holy of holies with a rope around his leg.   No truth to it at all, but preachers pass that thing around like a Christmas fruit cake.

that was the explanation that I understood. The women being segregated from the men could not always hear what was being said and would interrupt by shouting "what did he say?" Or ask the husband "what?" Paul was basically telling women to be silent and not interrupt but ask when they were alone. If men were in front and women in back they could not hear Paul's words.

just look at the preferred place of men in a mosque...similar to the old standard of male dominance at that time.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
